? for 2nd gen owners
Im just curious if my 4Runner is abnormal. It doesn't get too cold at night here, But if I dont let my truck sit and warm up for a good 3-5 minutes in the morning, it doesnt want to drive right. Its jerky when starting out in 1st and the clutch feels like its not doing its job. Only after about a minute or so of driving does it "warm up" and then it drives fine and smooth. Does anybody else have this problem?

Mine does the same thing. I just let it warm up until the idle drops then its not as bad. But if I have to take off within the first minute it boggs down and gets choppy as I release the clutch. My solution: park facing slighty down hill and let momentum take care of the initial take off. :)

I don't have that problem guys. I'm wondering if your cold start injector needs cleaning.

Mine also has never done what is being described.
Not even in -45. |
My clutch hops a bit in the morning when it's cold but it runs smooth.

So it sounds like it could be a Fuel injection problem or Fuel pump.
Well, I just wanted to see if I was the only one having this problem. I can live with it. Its probably not a bad thing to let it warm up anyways. Thanks for the replies! :D |
My cold start sputter was caused by a bad head gasket (#6 cylinder).
It would barely run for the the first 3 minutes then after that it run fine. Also it wouldn't idle high when first started cold. I was losing coolant but my compression was fine. |

Replaced HG's about 8k miles ago. So I hope thats not the case. Haven't noticed any coolant loss or anything so Im leaning towards something else. But you never know with these things. |
