180* or 195* Thermostat in 22re
What temp thermostat is originally in a 92 22re. The auto parts store gave me a 195, but the old one was a 180. I'm replacing the Tstat, rad cap, and fan clutch because it had seems to be running hotter than usual . It was always reading about 1/8 to 1/4 on the guage(now I know why...180). What's recommended.
The gauge has been reading 1/2 way lately, and the rad and overflow are where they should be. Also no mixing of fluids. |
anyone?

i believe carbed engines use the 180* thermostat and EFI trucks use a 195* one...using the carb thermostat is supposed to be a performance upgrade or something

I am running a 180, and must have had a 195 before, because I had run in the middle all the time and now am at 1/8-1/4. So I would say go with the 180. Its what my owners manual said also.

I think that is correct, it depends on the engine. I used to have a 22Rec and remember looking up the thermostat specs for it when replacing it. I would say you should also consider where the car will be driven. I would probably go with 180 degree one if I were, say, in AZ desert :) But going with manufacturer's spec is fine. Either a Toyota dealer, your owner's manual or a parts store should be able to tell you what temp is the OEM thermostat in your engine.
