x250f23x _ 1990 pick-up X-cab 2WD frame _ KOH pre-runner

Hello All,
I've been a member of yotatech but never posted anything. Being that I like looking over new build threads of others, I thought I would start my own for others to enjoy. The idea is to have a truck that will be both a crawler and pre-runner, street legal and something I can drive everyday. It's a big order for sure, but whats the fun in something if it's not challenging. Think king of the hammers pre-runner!

Suspension:
I am currently working with the 3 link kit from Four Wheel Underground (4WU). The 4 link rear will come in time. The plan is to run Radflo coil carriers and bypasses. 2.0 x 16" shocks looks to be the magic ticket, but anything can change at anytime with a build as you may all know.

Frame:
The frame is a 2WD 1990 extra cab. It was leaf sprung for awhile but I wanted more flex. As a result of making minor mods, some how the truck went from running, to completely stripped down. I must have blacked out when this happened.

Drive-train:
Motor: I plan on using the same good-ole 22-RE. No mods wanted at this time. The plan is to keep this truck completely street legal and smog legal too (CA).
Transmission/transfer case(s): The transmission is w-56 (not sure if its an A-B-C-D-E-LMNOP) and the single transfer case is a forward shift. I've got a top shift laying around for when the time comes.
Axles: I was using stock toyota mini axles, hi-pioion and open front, 4 cyl detroit rear with 5.29 gears. I've got a Ruff Stuff front housing, set up to use the same mini 3rd members. Stock balls and will bring running some where around full width or as short as I can get in consideration on the shocks.

I think that is a good first start in posting a new build. Altho I will admit your behind the curve of where Im at. So to catch up heres a quick run down...
Right now I've got the frame stripped down, just about done cutting off all the brackets not needed and stripping the frame to bare metal. Hopefully this weekend I can fill most of the frame holes that fall into my frame plate rosette weld holes. The frame plates where made by me in Soldworks, cut on a plasma table out of 11 gauge. I'm not worried about it being to thin as I am fully boxing the frame front to back. Yes the front cab mounts are gone, I'll be making my own.

Sounds like it'll be awesome when you finish. Looking forward to watching the progress.

Are you going to be doing the leaf sprung conversion or 3 linking? After all I've done and seen, if you have any fab skills, linking is the way to go. It's not much more difficult then the whole leaf sprung kits. You only need to understand the concept. And do a little more mock-up and welding.

I don't go hard core off roaring more so for looks and I'm sure I could pull off a 3 link but where I live u can go off roading with a stock truck

A few pics of the bottom frame strap. I'll be leaving the rosette welds, they look like big rivets, should look interesting when all the plates are welded on.

So the bottom side strapping is done.

Next, I've started on the passenger side top strapping. Tomorrow I should have that all welded up and starting on the side plates tacking.

Any updates? I'm considering the 4WU 3-Link also.

Humvee tires make a great frame stand:P

Ask and you shall receive..
Frame is done (for this year). Finishing the front cab mounts tonight. Once I make up my mind about a transfer case mount, the motor will go in.

As for the 4WU 3 link kit, just get it. By far the best, and best looking kit on the toyota market.

I couldn't agree more, my only reservation is lift, i don't really want more, just more clearance. Please keep us posted with pics of the install and such.

nice work, good luck!

Lift is up to the installer and what info you give us for weight to spring ratio's.

Yes! Sorry I forget about yotatech mainly because I don't get much feed back.

From the last post.. I had the motor in. But I wasn't getting all the up travel I wanted with out running into the oil pan and the axle side top link bracket was hitting the motor mount perch, so I removed the drive train so that I could cut the stock motor perches off and look at my options of moving the drive train higher. I plated and filled in the area where the perches where. Now I have the drive train sitting kinda where it needs to be.

Got my Shocks (Radflo), Springs (PAC) and Bumpstops (Radflo) from Brian at 4WU.

I made CAD files of these motor mount perch face plates to use with the LC Engineering Street Mounts. I also ordered another set of these mounts to use in the rear; transfer case mount.

I finished my transfer case mount yesterday and submitted my files to have cut last night. Once I get everything in, I can hang the drive train and start on the 4 wheel underground bracket locations.
