toyota v8/fj80 axles/ suzuki

Not sure where this fits in but i'll post here and hope you guys don't mind too much.

I'm james and my suzuki is ending up with a lot of toyota parts.

this is my rig before i started the latest swap

heres how it was 3 years ago..
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...420091524a.jpg

then i put yota leafs and axles on it and stretched the wheelbase

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...t_out69/27.jpg

i always wheeled with built toyotas so i was always modifying trying to keep up with them and my short wheel base was killing me on climbs

i linked it front and rear and went to 113 inch wheel base
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/IMG_0680.jpg

moved to moab for a year and wheeled a bunch

the rig took a beating over the year.. and motor was worn out.. so i was going to swap in a 22r with dual cases.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/89bde2ed.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/b2ab4d37.jpg

then i found a good deal on a lexus 4.0 v8 and decided to basically just rebuild the whole rig

starting at motor working back:lexus 1uz-fe/toyota r150f 5 speed tranny/ 2.28 crawl box/ tcase with 4.7

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/bca166b8.jpg

started working on the link mounts a little bit:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/0ae9443d.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/bb186174.jpg

got my ruffstuff front housing
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/68c43342.jpg

it uses a rear 9.5 3rd member and the big 80 series shafts and birfields

mini axle birf vs 80 series birf:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n.../Birfields.jpg

the only problem is very limited high steer options.. i went with some awesome knuckles from hellfirefabworks
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/knuckles.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/knuckle2.jpg

waiting for the next batch of knuckles to get done from machine shop so i can get a pair.

if there is a problem i think i will just get some reid racing knuckles and c's and turn my axle into a hybrid toyota/ dana 60

the front suspension is going to be pretty hard to get any up travel out of
i want a 4 link but i think i can get a better roll center radius arms and a panhard but we will see

its kinda hard to see the tape but i taped off a dual trianguled 4 link. I i will be modifying the end of the frame, also will try to get a little more triangulation on the lower links

just had surgery removing kidney stone that had been giving me problems since september. So right now i'm sore and not getting much done !

hope to have it done so i can race the moab w.e. rock dirt riot in april

Nice combo..did the Lexus engine bolt up to the stock R150 bell housing? I would love to stuff this thing into my '81

This thing is more Toyota than Suzuki so I think we can make an exception in your case:booty:

zukijames 02-11-2012 07:33 AM

no i have an adapter between the bellhousing and tranny.. the adapter wasn't bad but the flywheel/clutch/throwout is a pain..

i think its a aw4? found in jeeps but made by asin .. it bolts up but i didnt want an auto..

if i were to start over i would do that and then bolt an atlas right to it

thanks for checking out my build man!

zukijames 06-28-2012 03:14 PM

slow go

moved the rig once again so i had to take it apart since it wasnt together enough to move it the way it was

so it sat out in the weather and has been rusting away behind the neighbors house..

but my girlfriend got her land rover running and pulled it out of the way so i brought the zuk home and got started again fianlly

here rover when i used it as a daily drive..

dana 44's locked front and rear 5.89s chromo shafts in both axles and ctm ujoints

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...drover0121.jpg

heres her rover after she took the 14 inch gas powered cut off saw to it.. on tons and 40 inch stickies

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-23174727.jpg

got wiring harness and got most of the motor stuff plugged in

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/5ba0ad2b.jpg

working outside kinda sucks but i finally got the zuk home and unloaded.

rear suspension is all welded on on the frame side and axle side is tacked up pretty good but not burned in solid yet

my 40 inch good years are alot bigger than my 37inch treps

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/a4369df1.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/239b4934.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/826d2370.jpg

i dont know what to do about the front still.. my pinion is rotated up 8 degrees with knuckles at factory angle..

if i rotate the axle down i can get about 5 or 6 inches of up travel before drive line hits on oil pan

but that puts my knuckles rotated back pretty far and i think my tires will flop side to side instead of turning..

i dont want a panhard but i dont know if i can get enough triangulation to get away with a 4 link

sorta got things figured out so then i played with the calculator a little bit

so this is what i think i can fit in the front
rough estimate on weight and cg height

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture3-1.png

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture4-1.png

anyone see anything horribly wrong? I worry that thats not enough triangulation to keep the axle under the rig..also not much vertical separation

fancy throw out bearing.

drive line wants to hit on oil pan

Thanks you guys are awesome

No fancy lights but I am running a Lexus grill and I'm looking for a trunk from a 2000 Lexus gs 400

Motor is not getting spark , tested ignitors, coils, crank sensor, cam sensors

So it's either the ecu or the guy who did my harness (same guy who sold me "running" motor and ecu) messed up

The captin rob racing/lowrangeoffroad Toyota needs a new wiring harness
