2013 SR5 Suspension Upgrade
I need some help to decide what suspension upgrade to get.
I have a 2013 4runner SR5 edition (could not afford the trail - but like it for the kdss). It's my DD and I may never take it off road. The most it may see is unplowed side streets, series of pot holes or a park service road (mud & sand) on the east coast). I just need to smooth out the choppy highway ride and body roll, will coil-overs and a bigger sway bar do the trick? If yes any suggestions on which ones to get? I saw Icon have a stage 2 complete suspension package for a little over $3K...is it over kill for my needs? I would like to keep modifications to a minimum (no cutting/welding modifications to the stock parts). Thanks in advance - also any other Gen 5 owners out there that modified theirs? |
Also Interested
Thanks for posting "Novice." I'm also interested in hearing the same answer, since my 2013 has more body roll on the road than I'd have anticipated.
Haven't found our ride choppy. In fact, it's great fully-loaded (4 adults, 1 child, and luggage for all). Feels great towing, too. But the body roll when lightly loaded is significant. |

Here is my 2013 Trail Edition with KDSS. I am running Icon Extended Travel Coilovers in the front with Light Racing UCA's, OME 898 Coils in the rear with OME Shocks, and Metal Tech Offset Lower Links. I am happy with this setup. The stiffer springs in the rear will allow for additional weight when I eventually get a rear bumper.
Check out T4R.org if you get a chance. There is a 5th Gen section full of build threads and a wide variety of setups you can look at. Way more 5th Gen info over there. Good Luck! Attachment 150153 Attachment 150154 |

I was hoping that you may still visit this site. I saw you lifted your kdss and I had a few questions for you. |

Inner tie rod issues
I was wondering if anyone out there has replaced the inner tie rods on a 2010 4Runner Trial with KDDS. I am having alignment problems. I took it to an off road shop and was told that I needed to replace the bushings, upper ball joints and inner/outer tie rods. The inner tie rods are not serviceable and require a complete replacement of the rack and pinion assembly which requires removal of the engine and transmission.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris |
