[MI] 1987 SR5 4x4 22RE MT xtra cab with Aftermarket Box

Just got it home today, some parts are missing from the last owner which bought it for the engine. It's a true SR5 based on the model plate under the hood, has the graphics on the hood, and the body is spray bombed. Cab is pretty rusty, frame looked good but didn't check it out super great, and has the aftermarket box with fiberglass bed sides. Truck has a W56 trans which based on the odometer has 281k miles. I can do a "drill test" on it to see how the bearings sound if someone is interested. Truck came with the 60/40 split seats and also the sun roof, but the glass looks cracked up (there's snow/ice on it atm). I haven't dug though all the misc parts in the back to see what hidden goodies there are yet.

Door panels and arm rests are the long SR5 style, Cluster has the tach, has the map lights and rear slider window. Windows are manual crank with vent windows. Passenger side door is pretty good shape, driver's side has a rust hole about an inch or so around mid door (didn't check the bottom). Last owner had no info on the truck, just the person he bought it from needed the engine.

Radio trim is trimmed for an aftermarket radio and is otherwise in good shape of my quick peek. The trim job was done pretty well.

Oh it also has a Sunpro positive oil pressure gauge (has a line running from engine aea to gauge).

Also have a 1987 Pickup Owners manual in pretty good shape. The cover is the worst part with the writing on it. If anyone is interested let me know.

Head rests are in pretty good shape and are the vinyl style.

Would like to sell some of the larger items locally, small items I can ship. PM/post with what you'd be interested in and I'll check if I have it on hand and what kind of shape. Gauge cluster is generally a hot item so probably be pulling that soon as weather permits (it's been getting below 0 at night here).

Update/sold items

After market box is sold
SR5 Cluster is sold
Sunroof glass is cracked, but the hardware on it appears good.

Interested in the speedo cluster, does it have a console, and a shifter bezel?
TIA

atcfixer 01-04-2018 07:34 PM

I still have the cluster, in the photos you can see what kind of looks like a crack, that ended up being a fairly deep scratch. Stickers are removed and it cleaned up pretty well. Speedometer seems to work well by manually turning the cable input and the trip/odometer both scroll. I don't really have any way to test any of the other gauges, but if there's any problems with it I'm not against it getting returned.

The truck had the 60/40 seat split, so no center console. I'd have to dig around the truck and see if the shifter bezel is sitting around somewhere in it or not, but I'm guessing one of the last owners took it. The truck was basically a parts truck for the last couple owners, lots of misc things missing and seems like the wiring has been hacked up a bit, atleast for under the hood.

What's TIA? A google search came up with "Transient Ischemic Attack" which is a type of stroke. I kind of doubt that's what that's there for though.

I thought I had photos uploaded, but I guess I didn't put them on this thread, so I'll update the first post with them.

NYHumpinUtah 01-04-2018 07:48 PM

TIA
Thanks in advance
pm me with the $ for the cluster

Looking for lots of interior stuff... door panels, possibly dash pieces if they aren't cracked, xtra cab interior trim pieces... how good of shape is that interior in? And is it grey interior? Is the steering wheel in good shape? That's what I'm looking for...

Photos for NYHumpinUtah. I sent you notes in the PM on the photos. If you need any retaken to see something clearer, let me know. Haven't quite figured out how to make this cellphone take good pics every time yet :(.

EDIT: Added glove box pics too. ATM it's all together, but shipping would be cheaper with just the gray part if the rest of yours is good.

Well the kick plates look the same, don't need the ac/heater plate
Let me know what you think.

Just added glove box pics. Yea the cover over the gauges on yours is the 86 and older style, this one is the 87-88 style. I've read they interchange just fine, just the thicker short pocket dash pad doesn't fit under the long pocket cluster cover with out some trimming. Here's some photos to compare side by side. One of the last blue interior pieces I have left.

Photos for ttr125mar. Start of what you requested for doors, dash etc. I think that's the best dash pad in gray I have currently which is cracked and short pocket style (87+).

NYHumpinUtah 01-08-2018 01:06 PM

Cory
Guess I'm back to the painting option.
Do you think the air vents are the same?
Would take all 4 of them if they interchange.

atcfixer 01-08-2018 03:49 PM

2 Attachment(s)
I'm pretty positive the passenger pad ones interchange, the left one I test fitted, but the left side has kind of an odd gap (see photos). I didn't clip in the bottom side 100% so it's a little easier to remove again. I think I have a long pocket passenger pad around somewhere yet, I could double check how well their fit is as well if you want.

Since you're trying to change dash color to gray, are you looking for other interior parts too, or just mainly focused on the dash area? Door panels, head liner, seats, etc. I have a gray bench seat in pretty nice shape and brown SR5 bucket seats, but the shipping I'm sure would be killer for them. A pillar (windshield area) trim I have in gray too. Careful removing yours, there's little metal clips holding it in, basically have to pull it apart slightly, look where the clip is and run a screw driver to it and twist or else you're breaking it.

Let me know what you think. I've seen a couple trucks with painted interiors, and they came out well, but the wear from use comes though somewhat quick. Using a good quality paint and probably running some sort of non-gloss clear coat would probably be ideal.

NYHumpinUtah 01-08-2018 04:28 PM

Cory
Very disappointing, I was really hoping to get this dash out of the way so I could move on. Funny the pillar posts are gray............I don't know..................this gut was mix and match.................
O'well, that's just my luck. It seems that the parts from 84-88 are not interchangeable Back to the drawing board. Seems 84-85 are the same, wonder if they made slight mod changes when they changed to IFS
If you have the chance to sell them to someone else go for it. Maybe when I'll be ready you will get a 84 or 85 in.

Thanks
Mike

atcfixer 01-08-2018 04:45 PM

Sadly the 84/85 are super rare up here, I've only seen a couple rusted out ones for sale for $1000 each non running because of the solid front axle. 86 has been by far the most common and is the same style as what you have. 87 and 88 were the odd years they changed the interior a little. Being that the passenger pad is the hardest part to find for a reasonable price, I'd stay target that first, once you get one of them, then finish the interior that matches the pad for the best fit and finish, unless you prefer one style over the other. Personally I like the older style better. I do have another person in line for a complete dash and some other misc parts so hopefully they can make the trip out.

I do get these trucks time to time, so hopefully another 86 comes up with gray interior for your needs. It really is crazy when people come out in person and they almost always leave with like twice as much as they came for lol. Gray seems to be the 2nd most common color, right after brown. Blue I've had one truck with, and never had one with Red.

Anyway any route you go, good luck with sourcing the parts you need. I know ebay can be a good source, but it's also one of the highest priced areas too. Every little part of these trucks seem to sell, switches, covers, and all. Still don't fully understand why there's such a demand for 84-88 and such little demand for 89-95. I have atleast 3-4 complete or near complete dashes for 89-95 pickups lol. I stopped pulling parts off that era of pickup to store since they seem to move so much slower, so my yard is full of that body style of truck.

NYHumpinUtah 01-08-2018 05:57 PM

Cory
Next time I'll by a 89-95lol
I was just on ebay and down at the bottom of the page there was an add for dash restoration. funny it is about 5 miles from where I used to live in ca. They do complete restos on dash's door panel. ect. I asked for a quote on the dash pad here's the link, maybe it will be help.

atcfixer 01-08-2018 06:08 PM

Interesting, let us know what kind of price they want and what they do exactly. I'd assume the proper way is to remove the old pad and completely remake it with a new vinyl cover and such. I'm expecting a pretty high quote like $300+ but you never know.

Go to the web site and watch the 5 minute video, I'm pretty impressed

do you have a grey passenger vent louvre ?

Are you wanting the air vents, or the speaker cover? I have both. Air vents are the 87+ style, 86 and older they might not fit the dash pad correctly, not sure for that. Speaker cover should be the same for both styles of interior.

I have an 87 4runner. I need the passenger air vent in grey.

atcfixer 01-15-2018 06:03 PM

Alright, I'll have to get the air vent pulled for you and post some pics of it and such.

bhilln 01-19-2018 06:17 PM

How much do you want for the trans and t-case? Also will you ship if I cover the charges?

atcfixer 01-19-2018 10:00 PM

Trans + transfer case I'd do $200 on. Shipping is a bit of a pain due to my location. The best options I have are Fedex and UPS, no real freight options around that I'm aware of and I don't have a loading dock. A quick search shows the transmission + transfer-case is about 180lbs. I'd probably have to buy a pallet and strap the transmission down to that and ship based on that size/weight. I'd need your zip code and if you have a loading dock (or fork truck) at the drop off location.

Pickup and drop off I put as residential and used a random zip in Utah to get an idea on price. 200lbs total (to give some room for pallet) and class 100 is quoted to me as $615.04. If you have a loading dock/fork truck then it drops to $495. If I had a loading dock it would be $120 less. Still really expensive, but the distance away is pretty high. If you're closer it's cheaper, if you're farther than it's more. I'm not really experienced shipping freight, so maybe the class I picked is wrong or I don't have something entered right that is making it balloon in price. Maybe UPS is just really expensive on freight and Fedex is cheaper.

jbjonesie 04-06-2018 07:12 AM

Does it have Aisin locking hubs? how much?

Also how much are you looking to get for the sunroof glass (would need to ship it)?

atcfixer 04-06-2018 09:21 AM

Yea it has the IFS Aisin hubs, I have had a bunch of these trucks, so I already have a set pulled from an 86 with 128k miles. I'd part with the set for $110 shipped. The sunroof glass is broken sadly.

PinnacleMotorWorks 06-12-2018 06:24 AM

Hi, we are looking for a part for a 1987 toyota 4runner turbo (17880-35010, upper air intake boot or Air Mass Meter Boot) do you have this part?

atcfixer 06-12-2018 12:14 PM

Sorry never had a turbo 22re.

interested on ac compressor if available and works also sunroof if available thanks

atcfixer 06-20-2018 06:22 PM

Pretty sure all the ac compressors went with the engines I sold about a year ago, haven't gotten another 22r/re since then. What year of sunroof do you need? The one in the 87 pickup is cracked. I have a 1989 one, but that's the 1989-1985 body style.

Gerard 06-20-2018 07:00 PM

I'm going to assume it will fit in a 89 4 runner so the 89 one do you have all the hardware required for installion thanks

atcfixer 06-20-2018 11:26 PM

89 4runners were the same body style as 88 and older, but it's kind of a one off year for electronics and such. Body wise, 1990 is when they updated to the 89-95 pickup era. I removed the full sunroof with the body trim and plates to hold it in, so in theory if it's as bit or bigger than the older style, you could cut the hole to match and have the right mounting hardware. The only thing I don't have to match is the headliner, it was trashed in the truck it came from.

Anyway, there's a major body difference between the 1st gen and 2nd gen 4runner, the back half of the roof is removable on the first gen, no other body styles had that. I think it's the only one with the factory roll bar above the rear wheels too.

If you live near mid Michigan area, you could come and check it out, or even test fit it. It seems all of the Toyota/Lexus sunroofs are similar size/shape, but never tried to test interchangeability of them.

Toyota4Low 06-21-2018 06:52 PM

Probably already taken but I am looking for power window switches if you had them in there. Also looking for a non-cracked passenger armrest and center console
Pm Me please if you got any of those

atcfixer 06-21-2018 07:19 PM

Sadly never had one of these with power windows yet. Also the 87 truck was kind of weird, it came with a 60/40 split bench style seat, no center console.

Toyota4Low 06-21-2018 08:36 PM

Darn. Oh well. Thanks

Jakez 09-07-2018 07:16 AM

I have a 93 4x4 22re pickup, would the front diff mounting bolts be the same?? The 2 that are verticle, i need one, it seems one of mine have fallen out.

Also, the little black plastic thing that stops the door from flying fully open unhinged. The thing that stops the door at 2-3 spots in newer cars, i need the drivers side one (if theyre any different).

And lastly, a blue ashtray (just the ashtray)?

atcfixer 09-07-2018 10:31 AM

I'll have to check if I have any of the front diff bolts, I live in Michigan, so road salt is a major problem here (rust on everything). I have 89-95 parts trucks so I'll have the right parts, but pretty positive all IFS front axle trucks/4runners are the same mounting, ADD vs hub lockers might be slightly different shape but from memory they are a direct interchange still. This also goes for the T100 that's based on the older platform. Tacoma and up the drive shaft was on the opposite side.

Also wouldn't hurt to double check the front bolt on the diff cover too. Probably should check the torque on the bolts if one fell out, maybe the diff was dropped down before and the person installed it with out torquing down the bolts enough. I've met too many people that thinks 20ft/lbs of torque is enough for lug nuts. Hate to say it, but also checking the CV axle bolts might be a good idea too. I don't have torque specs on hand, but the 3 main mounting bolts are big, so you'd want it quite tight. CV axle bolts are similar so I'd assume a fairly lot of torque too, I know removing them they are always very tight to break loose lol.

I should have one of the door stops around or what ever you'd want to call them. The 84-88 style is metal and completely different, but like I said I have the right era of parts anyway. You'll have to take the door panel off to replace it as an FYI. Once the bolts are removed, it goes into the door then out the hole the door panel is covering. Also a small FYI, my dad's 1972 Olds Cutlass had the style that stopped in 2-3 spots, not exactly a new design/idea :).

All of my 89-95 parts trucks have been gray or tan interior, you could paint the ashtray if you wanted to give it a shot. Color matching might be a little hard though. I'll get some photos up when I get a chance to pull the parts.

atcfixer 09-11-2018 02:56 PM

Just wanted to give an update, the 104k mile truck's front diff bolts are pretty toast, mainly the nut on top being rusted out. Sadly the door stopper on it is broken too, I have another 2wd truck out back, pretty sure it's door stop is still good. I have more around from past trucks but they'd be in a box somewhere in one of my 5 sheds of parts lol.

jetfoi 09-12-2018 06:17 AM

Sunroof

how much for that sunroof?

atcfixer 09-13-2018 10:51 AM

@Jakez

I got the part pulled, good news is, it's from an older truck (1991), and it seems they used all metal back then. Compared to my 93 it looks to mount up the same and everything so it should be an upgrade over what stock was for your truck. I have the passenger side as well from the same truck if you wanted a matching pair. Photo attached to show what it looks like.

https://i.gyazo.com/b704f4300ee41e28...f64e0ed0c2.jpg

@jetfoi

The glass is broken, not sure what exactly you was looking to get, the whole assembly to add a sun roof to your vehicle, or parts to repair your existing sun roof? Being a fairly large and heavy item, shipping would be quite killer, without the glass it might not be too bad.

I8URSVT 09-21-2018 10:32 AM

do you still have the fiberglass bedsides? and if so, would you consider shipping them?

Might want to see the shipping quote above for a transmission, it is really expensive for large items. Anyway, I sold the box like a year ago, they don't last long in Michigan since we have major rust problems from road salt and calcium chloride.
