Buying tires, got lots of choices.

okay guys, the time has almost come for my to buy a nice set of tires for the 4runner.

to the tune of AROUND a 33x12.50....15" rim-17" rim

i'm going to be buying new rims, but idk what size yet, i figure i'd buy the tires, then buy the rims...because the rims that i'm getting come in sizes all the way up to 20" (look like a "rockcrawler" steel rim, except it's aluminum!:coffee: )

the main two things i'm looking for are, GOOD MILEAGE (road noise doesn't bother me...at all), and they have to be able to NOT leave me stranded somewhere.

only offroad my vehicles see is MUD...no rocks for me, no sand, not many trails either...just MUD.

heres the list i have compiled so far.
BFG M/T KM1-love the tires, but no longer in production. (only used ones)
BFG M/T KM2- kinda skeptical, nobody can give me a mileage number on em.
Federal Couragia M/T-excellent in the mud, not sure of mileage numbers.
Firestone Destination M/T-heard they are OK at best in the mud, good mileag
Toyo M/T-heard good things about mileage, bad things about mud.
Nitto Trail Grappler-good things about mud, no mileage numbers yet.
Mickey Thompson MTZ- good things in both categories, but very expensive.

i'm wanting to go LOTS of miles out of the tires. i'm thinking about 40K-50K miles, and the tires should still have SOME tread left on them.

price is not a problem at the moment...but i'm not going to spend $1500 on tires..$1000 at most.

i seen a set of KM2's on a company truck guy said he LOVED them, but they were almost brand new so he hasn't put many miles on them, i felt of the tread, and it felt awfully soft to be good on the highway.

camo31_10.50 05-22-2010 10:52 AM

KM2's on tirerack 33x12.50r15's are about $775 for the set, plus about $115 shipping...

not BAD..but i think i can do better!

$239 a piece at summit racing....what gives?!?!?!?!?

scuba 05-22-2010 11:23 AM

KM1's will give you 40k easily :)
I'm at 33k ish and still have 1/3 tread left. And I use mine on da rocks alot..
Really wish they didn't quit making the Km1's

Heard the Km2's don't clear the mud easily, and i've also heard it's hard to get more then 30K outta them. Though, that's coming from guys that run lots of rocks so take it with a grain of salt..

:dj:

camo31_10.50 05-22-2010 11:31 AM

i've heard of people getting 80K out of a set of KM1's...

if i can find a set of KM1's on craigslist..i'd pick em up in a heartbeat!!!!!

BackGateYota92 05-22-2010 11:38 AM

hey check out the 33x13.50 super swamper m16's. they look like a good tire and ima post them pictures of my rims tonight man. to busy working on the truck at the moment. lol

camo31_10.50 05-22-2010 11:50 AM

i thought about the SSM16's....but i believe they were CRAZY expensive last i checked. lol

i might got with 16" rims, cuz 15's are gettin hard to find tires for.

mightymouse 05-22-2010 12:06 PM

what about the super swamper trxus? I running the summit mud dawgs or for the more common brand maxxis bighorns (same tire different name). I love them they grip and clean out well but my next tire will definately be the trxus.

yotaman85 05-22-2010 12:17 PM

mickey thompson MTZ's are what you want. they are amazing in the mud and will give you 50k no problem.. I had them on an explorer 4door 4x4 in 31/10.50 and they are the best tires i have ever herd.. almost silent on the road too..

camo31_10.50 05-22-2010 12:18 PM

i know a few people who had the Trxus M/T's and they said they perform great, but they are absolutely horrible on the road..and wear out fast...one of my buddies was RELIGIOUS on keeping up on his tires...and they still wore plum out in 25K miles...and he kept them rotated and properly inflated and balanced...and they were wearing good...just wearing fast.

camo31_10.50 05-22-2010 12:20 PM

i had forgotten about the MTZ's...they will now get put into the lineup! lol

beck85 05-22-2010 12:51 PM

I am also shopping for tires, has anyone EVER dealt with "onlinetires.com. Thier prices are almost unbelievable. I think they are out of Califa, but maybe not. Been looking at the Federal tires, destination m/t, nexan m/t or the km2, they dont make a km anymore. Or so I am told. Any input on the online tires com would be appreciated.

Tires

You looking for the best of two different worlds! A good off-road mud tire does not last on the highway. Think about what your truck is mostly used for. If your truck is a daily driver you should lean towards a A/T tire rather than a mud tire. A BFG A/T tire will last you 40K easy. If your truck is a weekend warrior with little highway use just get a good mud tire and don't worry how long they last. Once again it's hard to go both ways!

:tread:

BackGateYota92 05-22-2010 02:52 PM

all the mickey thompson mtz's ive seen tend to clog up easy. and i know a 37x13.50x15 ssm16 is 270 a tire so i figure the 33 would be cheaper

BackGateYota92 05-22-2010 02:54 PM

oh and what about nitto mud grapplers? their a real nice tire to

tonkatoy89 05-22-2010 07:07 PM

where you gonna get those rock crawler look alike s that are aluminum. i would like to check in about those? if you would like to give me the place so i can check them out online.

rebelrunner 05-22-2010 07:36 PM

^x2 please.

BackGateYota92 05-23-2010 04:47 AM

those rock crawler look alike rims are made by pro comp. they look like a mickey thompson classic 2 except gloss black. so far im the only yota ive seen that has them. i got em from tirepackage.com and they had an incredible sale going on

BackGateYota92 05-23-2010 04:51 AM

oh and im for sure gonna get pics tonight

sportbiker929 05-23-2010 05:35 AM

Goodyear duratracs!!!!

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 12:30 PM

Backgate Yota I like see the rims and tires you said you gonna get a picture tonight or something. I hear a lot of people shop for tires and rims on that website. They must be reasonable then.

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 12:38 PM

That online store for tires. Are they affiliated with 4wheelparts or something it kind of looks like 4wheelparts website?

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 02:21 PM

i have no clue on the websites lol

no mud grapplers lol those are a no no..

i've seen the MTZ's in action..my TSL's weren't takin me anywhere..and the guy with the MTZ's went right past me.

i would go with an A/T...but i go through too much nasty stuff to rock a set of A/T's lmao i'm going to be runnin about 300 or 350 miles a week until college starts back up in August, then i won't be doing much driving. maybe 100 miles a week...MAYBE lol

i think i'm gonna stick with 15" rims for now, 15" tires are about $40 cheaper per tire (on average.)

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 02:34 PM

well i went on that tirepackage.com and there prices are cheap

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 02:57 PM

yea that's where i'm at right now, checkin everything out...$1250 for rims and MTZ's right now....

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 03:03 PM

if you look at my thread bout the claws you can see how much mines is. im wondering if anybody knows of other online places that i can shop around and see if they beat the local prices down here

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 03:33 PM

what about the GoodYear MT/R with Kevlar tires???

Tire Rack has a $80 rebate going on, which would put those at around $700 for a set of 4.

and the BFG KM2's around around $780 or something, and they don't have the rebate.

*EDIT* it's $904 without taxes.......

pretty sure i'm gonna buy my tires locally..cuz shipping is an EXPENSIVE bastard.

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 03:42 PM

i found some other websites as i was searching around try maybe 4wheelonline.com or ntwonline.com.

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 03:50 PM

yea i've checked a lot of websites..i'd like to order from somewhere close, that way i can pick em up in store.

BackGateYota92 05-23-2010 03:51 PM

oh well a kid that goes to my school has mtz's and he said they dont clean worth a crap. the nittos are a nasty tire wish i had the money and tirepackage.com is very reasonable. lol

BackGateYota92 05-23-2010 03:52 PM

im planning on getting some pro comp x-terrains from there when these ltbs go out. lol

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 03:52 PM

thats true to so i guess you just gota still keep shopping lol. i think im just gonna go with tirepackage and maybe shop dont here to get prices then go from there

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 03:58 PM

yea the MTZ's have pulled me out more than once lmao..i've seen Nitto's in action..they are a really nice tire!!! but i heard they wear out pretty quick as well.

MaK92-4RnR 05-23-2010 04:16 PM

im gonna be getting 33x10.50 km2s.

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 04:21 PM

i think i'll go with the KM2's...as long as i don't find a deal on a set of Used M/T's

MaK92-4RnR 05-23-2010 04:21 PM

plus Km2s look sick :)

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 04:27 PM

yea they're flat out sexy for sure!

tonkatoy89 05-23-2010 04:42 PM

hahah

yotaman85 05-23-2010 04:48 PM

just to remind everybody, the Mickey Thompson MTZ's just blew away all other mud terrain tires (obviously not including mud only tires such as boggers and such) by Peterson's 4wheeloffroad... it was stated as flat out being the best mud performing tire... and was also 2nd only to the Toyo MT in street quietness followed by the KM2's..

camo31_10.50 05-23-2010 04:58 PM

see here pal, i don't care how loud the tire is lmfao...they could be as loud as boggers (they're LOUD btw.....VERY LOUD) and i wouldn't care, as long as i can get 40K miles or better out of them.

BackGateYota92 05-23-2010 05:59 PM

haha im trying to get pics up but i cant get em to upload from my photobucket account to my profile. im retarded when it comes to computer stuff. lol
