Today i disassembled the tails from the 340h (for practice) and 340f
here is what i found This is the 340f from an 88 22re 4runner Attachment 157688 This is the 340h from a 91 3vz 4runner Attachment 157689 what i found is the shafts are in fact the same spline just different lengths also i took the drive flanges from the 340h and slipped them on the output of the 340f it was a perfect fit. seeing this i am lead to believe you could take one of these and replace the lexus 3 bolt flange then be able to use a 4 bolt shaft from the trucks. this would be obviously 2wd but maybe a much more affordable option. both of these trans incorporated a 2 sided rotor of sorts for a speed sensor (i believe) i was thinking the pickup in the transfer adapter could be used to output a speed signal for the lexus cluster more to come.. |

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/...psdb6ff9f6.jpg so if you were looking for a cheaper 2wd option for the uz there you go here is the shaft from the 341e Attachment 156883 this is a view of the pickup rotor through the 340f transfer adapter Attachment 156884 initially i was going to bore this hole out to fit the lexus sensor Attachment 156885 341e sensor Attachment 156886 340f but after cutting down the shaft to fit the transfer i could no longer use the rotor assembly. i am going to attempt to use the drive shaft nuts for my rotor signal |

I dismantled the transmissions on july 10
i dismantled the lexus starting july 11 Attachment 156829 Attachment 156830 Attachment 156831 Attachment 156832 i scrapped the rest of what i wasnt going to possibly use or sell yesterday july 16 so about a week so far... but it is a yota so really the project is never done. i have to do everything my self as i dont have access to a fabrication shop or a big budget the motor looks gigantic with all the wiring crap on it |

i practically am there is so much stuff in that little building. my borrowed space is only about 16x25..
but either way i am still thankful i have any place to do this at all. I am now looking into what to do with that mess of wires left over. i have the entire "front cut" of wire harness to sort thru. what gets me is 3 out of 4 plugs for the ecu went to the engine harness. the other runs into body harness but from looking at the pin out all 4 go to the engine and trans. thats just stupid, it just makes the whole thing more difficult |
ive always wanted to see someone do a chevy transmisson behind the 1uz... id like to run a nv4500 behind mine

Pretty sure those were the only years. It had to have the 5vz engine. The earlier ones had the 3vz 3.0 and the same A340h that you already have. 5vz equipped 4runners and tacomas had the transfer case drop on the wrong side.
Not quite sure why Cebby didn't keep the A340H but he would have had issues with it communicating with the Lexus ECM properly. The input shaft on the oil pump was shorter too but I think he was able to swap it with the Lexus transmission. The A340H has it's transfer case married to the transmission and they shared fluid, not very desirable and difficult to upgrade later. |

I know the 5 speed is much easier .... But when your paralyzed its a bit difficult to try and do five things with your hands at once :)

So wouldn't it be possible to wire in the a340H to the Lexus harness and make everyone happy... ? I say this because I am attempting this right now .... And wanted to verify before I got to far and to crazy that it was possible? Anyone tried this? :)
Attachment 155984 340h left Lexus 341 right I am going Lexus 341 to 340f case using the drive shaft bolts for the rotor sensor and maybe an electric Speedo for speed sensor #1 if needed but would like to keep the cable Speedo if possible |

Auto trans
So what I found...
A340h married transfer case 89-95 4Runner. It is possible to use this set up. Not sure if the TC will bolt up to the 1uz flywheel ( going to check in morning). It is possible to divorce them with an adaptor 550$ A340e/341e A340e SC 400 92-99/ A341e 90-94 LS 400. It is possible to use this set up. You have to modify the tail shaft and case. There is an adaptor for this it is 699$. The transfer case will needed in addition to adaptor 100-500$ from salvage. A340f 95-03 4Runner, 95-03 Tacoma, 00-04 Tundra, 85-98 pickup,1996-98 T-100. It is possible to use this set up. I'm going to pick on the Tundra. It bolts to the 1uz. Transfer case drop is on the drivers side. 400-1500$ from salvage T-100 is a good option because it used the passenger side drop transfer case for those who are going to use IFS. 200-600$ from salvage So these transmissions are from the "A34" family and are similar in there electronics and internal parts. There are a few differences but nothing that can't be rearranged or moded slightly for use. |

If you don't have the accessories harnesses transmission and ecu it might be a good idea to get a parts car |
When I bought the engine I had the option I chose not to buy it with trans :bang: I was trying to save a little $ but it was a bad idea... I was misinformed. I have the complete wire harness and ecu for the 1uz and everything from the runner. I bought a bellhousing for the 1uz and was told it will bolt to any of the "A34's"
I think the route I will go is the T-100, it's going to stay IFS for another year till I decide what to use for axles (d60s, rockwells, or chromoly something)and gather parts (the engine swap is way over time and money budget). That way it won't matter what side the dif is on because I can easily use an adaptor and change it if needed. I've been taking pics will post when trans issue is taken care of... |
I myself picked up a sc motor thinking it was a good start till I figured out how stripped it was of several crucial items and had the wrong pan for ifs. This led me to buying a parts car to basically get everything I needed for free after scrapping and selling it off, short of the needed maintenance items and the 340f to scavenge parts from.
At least you have a bell housing.. I'm pretty sure you need the torque converter and oil pump/input section of the trans to swap with whatever 340 you plan on using. Cebby covered it in his build. I'm pretty sure he was intending on using the h trans but changed directions. |
