Kiyo and myself have been thinking about these scoops for a while. Coming accross this thread convinces me to get it. The hole in the hood is getting old.

Install time took 20 minutes. 10 to cut the hood and 10 to wrench the 6 nuts down.

I didn't like the hole either... especially since its going to be rain season here real soon!

I was saying the same thing on other threads last year before I started mine!

When your 3.0 goes... DO THIS SWAP! No matter how long it takes, you won't regret it!

It's always the fallback, I really want to try the 1uz tho.... knock on wood, but my 3.0 seems like it's got a lot of years left too :D

calipatient 11-03-2011 09:48 AM

1uz would be awesome! Drive that thing until the gasket blows... and it will! ;)

3 scoops ordered. Thanks again. We will have to post up some pics after they are installed.

I would love to see them! We might have to start a seperate thread for scoop pics

Had it on the road a little over 800 miles and pulled a check engine light... wierd thing is it goes on for a bit but when the truck has been sitting for a few hours and I take off. half the time it will go off and stay off, until the next couple times I start my truck, then goes back on. I guess I will just have to pull the codes and see whats the deal!

kiyobrown 11-12-2011 07:28 AM

Ever figure out which codes??

The scoops came in yesterday. Can't wait to get it all buttoned up. We will have to post pics when we install them.

Ya, I had no gas cap! Smog guy lost it and I kept forgetting to pick up a new one. Cap on, no CL. makes sense!

Glad to hear they came in I'll start a new thread for scoop ideas/pics in the 3.4 swap section

just wondering how far the Supercharger sits above where the Hood is, I have a 2" BL that I put on so I could avoid cutting my hood. But that was before I even discovered the 3.4 Supercharged was my option for engine swap.

With 2" lift you wont have any problems. I was able to close my hood without even cutting a hole, just the under hood supports... but it did leave a small dent and would rub on the underside of the hood when it rev'd.
So as far as how much clearance is need to fit the S/C..?
Not much!

calipatient 12-03-2011 10:28 AM

I really didnt want to cut it at first... but didnt want another 2" of lift, its already top heavy as it is... after all was said and done, Im stoked with how it turned out.

Sweet rig!

I'm doing this swap now & was wondering if you have any body lift on this truck and what did you do for the exhaust cross-over?

I like the hood scoop idea but I was concerned about exhaust to firewall clearance without doing a body lift.

No body lift. Just 5" suspension lift. The 3.4 engine with supercharger ALMOST cleared but no quite. That was the reason for the hood scoop. I had no problems with the clearance between the firewall and exhaust. Plenty of room to slide it on and bolt it up with the motor already in the truck and no transmission.

As far as the crossover I built my own but it took a few trial and errors. Toyonly swaps sells them for like $125, well worth it in my opinion and it looks a lot nicer than mine turned out!

More like 200 for those who are wondering. good job on the build. Hopefully i will get mine started later this week.

I noticed in your sig you're supercharged with plans on urd fuel mods. How well has the supercharger without any fuel mods worked? I'm reading anything from it pings quite a bit to people have no issues with running the supercharger without the urd fuel mods? Are you running any type of fuel enrichment other than stock?

Thanks and for the correction on price.
Good luck on yours, do the research and everything will fall into place. Any questions feel free to ask. I dont mind answering what I can.

No other fuel mods at this point but I can definitely feel the need for them. In high RPM's there just simply isnt enough fuel being delivered for peak performance, and yes it does ping. But, that's exactly what the URD mods are made to fix. I do have the AFR calibrator but have yet to install it. This will be the first thing I do before dropping a grand on the 7th injector setup!
