how much would u pay for solid front axle????????

hey am looking at buying a solid front axel out of a 83-84 truck and am wondering how much i should pay? its in good condition and everything is straight, but the wats $350 cdn including removal and inspection. (they warrenty all parts for 6 months) please reply as i have no idea what this should cost, thanx>>

200-300 American

I can get a axle from the local import yard for 350 but that doesnt come with any warranty or anything, there are alot of 83s on the lot so they arnt too rare. If yours is gona cost 350 for them to pull it and inspect it and give a warranty for 6 months that sounds pretty fair to me. I am also Canadian but live in B.C so who knows how much the markets differs. You can Also get a SFA of an 85 too not just 83-84

79-85 will work just fyi.

i paid 250us and had to pull it from under an 83 myself.

I paid $300 from private party for an '85. I'd say for $350 with the inspection and warranty is good deal! Try to snag an '85 for that price :)

I got my 83 SFA for $200 CND from a guy local to me in good shape. I would say for a 84-85 $350 with a waranty is not bad. Remember if you are doing a swap you will most likly be rebuilding the axle anyways.

AxleIke 04-02-2008 01:16 PM

Cleaned and warrantied, sure.

Junkyard should be 150

sh0kk86 04-02-2008 01:24 PM

ya figure 100-150 for rebuild kit w/ bearings.

thanx for the info guys. where i live in alberta there are not really many choices out there, so i think this is my only option. i dont plan on beefing up the axel as of yet but will definately be rebuilding it. this will be going on a 90 4runner v6. my other question is how much of the running gear should i snag? the whole truck is there so i can get whatever i need? Suggestions?

Besides the SA, you might want the front D shaft for a core if you getting a proper one made at driveshaft shop.

canuckyotafan 04-03-2008 04:44 AM

what about the leaf springs? my truck comes with the coil springs on the rear. would it be better to just buy new ones from trailgear?

Justinvd 04-03-2008 12:06 PM

Well if your doing a solid front axle swap then almost all the kits will come with new front lift leafs. Are you going to leafs in the back too then?

canuckyotafan 04-05-2008 04:28 AM

yes i am am going to leafs in the back. gonna prob use trailgear 5 inch lift. i would like to make my own but i dont know what length the springs are. i am a welder and will have no problems making the spring mounts and brackets. does anyone know the length of these springs?

YeloSub7 04-05-2008 03:00 PM

if you can fab brackets easy, buy some chevy springs (i think 63") which give about 3-4" lift from what I've heard/seen. Then most people add a bit longer shackle depending on desired lift height. Hopefully someone who has used them will chime in with better specifics for ya. I am going to be using TG's springs front/rear. If you have the money why not go TG or marlin or all pro. Up to you at this point.... depending on how much $$$ you want/have to spend

In my truck (4'' front and 5'' rear) I noticed the front of the truck getting up when cornering. THe funny thing is it doesn't come down 'till you finish steering. Don't know if this is for the SAS or for the leafs, I had never driven a leaf truck 'till I SASed mine hehe
