1995 P/UP SAS BUILD UP Your Advice Please
2 Attachment(s)
I am starting the process of a SAS on my 1995 pick-up.
I bought a 1985 front axle this week and have begun to rip into it. I have the knuckles off and all the fun stuff that accompanies them. On the driver's side of the axle I had zero issues or problems that jumped out at me. The passenger's side I found a scored wall once I started inspecting the parts. I have attached some pics for some advice from you guru's... :hillbill: My question is this? Is the damage bad enough to warrant finding another part... or will it be ok once I put a knuckle kit, new bearings, and axle inside the old housing? What say you? |
Inside of the spindle? I wouldn't sweat it too bad. What's the brash bushing look like?
:wabbit2: |
It doesn't appear to be worn. Very very minimal wear, if any.
Thanks for the help! |
Brass bushing centers the axle shaft so I wouldn't worry about scoring.

I am currently inspecting the axle/birfields...
Could I get away w/ using the stock axle (as long as it is not damaged) and re-gearing w/ a locker in the front? Anything to look out for aside from gnarled up splines and warping? This is gonna be a daily driver with nothing larger than 33's on it. Might see some action on the farm and hunting... Thanks... |

well... I suppose I will be giving marlin a call on the new axles...
For a dd... should I put an ARB air locker in the front or put it in the rear with a Grizzly in the front? Thanks |

I have had my inner seals on my solid axle installed for about 1.5 mths. In that time, I have had the axles sitting in the housing without the rest of the hardware (knuckles etc...) intalled. Will this hurt my seals? New gears are installed and axles are inserted. Just curious if I should replace the seals before I finish the front axle build. Axle/housing has been stored indoors. TKS |
Yukon Grizzly Locker in front, 4.56 gears

Looks good! When you going to start tearing apart the IFS? What a fun project that is!! lol
|
as soon as I get it out of the shop... New clutch, rear main seal, fly wheel, H2O Pump, and Timing Belt... got 202K and I thought it was time....
Hopefully next week... :great: I am gonna have to fab the ARB front bumper a bit if I want to keep it after the SAS.... |
Beautiful!! You should keep the stock rims they look great!
|
Thanks.... But they are a little banged up and the stud holes are getting a little sloppy.
Gonna go w/ some black steelies... And put some 32's back on it. Gotta save some$ for my ARB air locker and gears in the rear.... |
