san diego memorial weekend

so is anyone actually going to be doing a local one day no camping run that weekend?
i would like to do In-Ko-pah, or carveacre(never been...) or corral canyon as a last resort(kinda bored of the place)

anyone? I'm too lazy to drive far, the desert is too hot
the traffic coming back from mexico will be hell that monday.

Mike

ecchamberlin 05-16-2006 02:54 PM

I will keep an eye on this because I want to do a day run in one of those locations myself. Just not sure how that weekend will go so far. I do know that Sunday is out of the question for me. Sat morn would be cool. I would be down with Carvacre again even though it was the last run we did. It was pretty fun!

I'll check back in on this in a few days.

miguelitro 05-17-2006 12:53 PM

carveacre...i'd like to see the place.

RobT2k 05-17-2006 02:34 PM

Sat morn might work for me, I'd like to run carvacre again. It is a fun run, even if it was the last one you did, there is always something you can try to make it harder if you want.

miguelitro 05-18-2006 11:10 AM

so can we plan on carveacre on sat morn. not too early. do you meet at carls jr. in alpine? can we not meet there at 8AM, I'm young and will be partying alittle friday night:D
Mike

Tanto 05-18-2006 11:12 AM

you're always partying, mike :D

I'd be down for this run if I hadn't already made plans to go to Big Bear the same day.

ecchamberlin 05-18-2006 08:37 PM

Miller Jeep trail is big fun. I did it in my 99 Taco. It just keeps going up for a long A## time. Nice trail in a wooded area. It was a TTORA run and we drove up in the AM did the run and came back down to SD all in the same day. I was a tired dude.

I really hope to make this.

Toyopnoy 05-18-2006 10:03 PM

I'm up for carveacre, i'll be in San Diego that weekend for a family party on Sunday. I can definately sneak away on Saturday morning and make it. This trail is super fun and i'm definately not bored with it haha...

Mike

funrunner91 05-19-2006 12:20 PM

miguelitro 05-19-2006 12:26 PM

yes you can roll, but no you cant get directions to carveacre from me. I actually have no idea how to get there:D if no one comes along who knows the way we'll have to go somewhere else like corral or inkopah...Miller Jeep is up in gorman...i need to finish up some mods befor i tackle that one, rear suspension needs to get done, trac bar and belly pan hope to be done by new yearsLOL
Mike

Toyopnoy 05-19-2006 12:34 PM

I'm pretty sure there will be some veterans going on this trip. Just set a time to meet at the carl's jr in Alpine off Tavern road.

miguelitro 05-19-2006 01:11 PM

chill

How about 9:30 at the Carls Jr. off Tavern road in Alpine on Sat May 27th.

is this a full day run or just a few hours? just curious.

funrunner91 05-19-2006 01:32 PM

oh sorry miguelitro, i went to gorman and ran miller jeep trail but i did not know where it ended so i turned around, gorman is a lot of fun but its far. so saterday morning at carls jr off tavern rd is the plan?

miguelitro 05-19-2006 01:39 PM

yes that is the plan:D

miller jeep connects from the top of that one hill out past piru creek and then goes out to the other end out there at frazier park:D I'm a wealth of info arnt I...

RobT2k 05-19-2006 03:29 PM

9:30 sounds good. I guess I'm the only one who knows how to get there so far??
Just to make it clear for the guys in Orange-
We're meeting at a Carls jr on Tavern rd exit off of the 8 east fwy, in Alpine, CA(SD county)
After that jumping back on 8 east for about 10-15 mins to the 79 interchange exit.

I think if we don't mess around too much or have any issues, this run usually takes around 3+ hours. My personal record for just mobbing straight thru is 1hr 45mins, but it was in alot better shape then, not as many deep ruts.

Tanto 05-19-2006 03:46 PM

You know, you don't have to get back on the 8 after you meet at Carl's Jr. Making a left out of Carls Jrs and continuing straight will lead you to carveacre. I'll be going on this one if no one wants to go on my Big Bear trip.

Wintermute 05-19-2006 05:54 PM

I'm certainly interested, never been to carveacre. How tough is the trail?

Toyopnoy 05-19-2006 08:44 PM

Sorry Ryan to bail out...but yah the backroads off tavern are actually pretty quick and not to bad of a drive.

The trail is a little technical in some spots not too bad. If that is your truck in the avatar you "shouldn't" have any problems...

ecchamberlin 05-20-2006 08:18 PM

miguelitro 05-21-2006 03:44 AM

miguel

ecchamberlin 05-21-2006 05:21 AM

Lets do ch 4 so we can hear other wheelers if they are on the trail also. It helped out last time we were out there when a jeep group came up on us.

TJMatt 05-21-2006 07:43 AM

Alright boys, just thought i would let you know ('cause you'll probably want to quickly change your plans). Tankota (Zach) and I hit up Carveacre for a quick 2 hour session on friday and unfortunately a big cat must have went through there and cleared the whole trail from that right turn where Marc was thinking about flopping (last time we all went) all the way down to the houses. The mud hole is also dried up and someone put alot of rocks in some of the harder ruttier sections. It also upset me to see that the cat wiped out 10 feet+ of the brush and manzanita on either side of the trail(looks like a fire crew went through there to clean up the road and surrounding brush before fire season). It looks really ugly through this section and if you aren't careful where you place your tires, i guarantee someone will put an exposed root through their sidewall (a good mile of trail is covered in torn up vegetation) as i have seen it done more than once in the last few years. Ask Zach about this too :great: . Anyways, to sum it all up the beggining is still technical in a few spots, but the end is Toyota Camry drivable. Just thought i would let ya'll know.

Toyopnoy 05-21-2006 08:20 AM

Damn that sucks but I guess the they gotta do what they gotta do before the fires since it's almost summer. Well everyone just chime in if we are gonna change location or still head up there...

RobT2k 05-21-2006 04:34 PM

I'm still down to go, that section is on the end of the trail anyway. Most of the fun is before pancake rock anyway.

miguelitro 05-21-2006 04:47 PM

lets do carveacre. i've never been there so i dont know what i'd be missing anyways.
Mike

Toyopnoy 05-21-2006 06:51 PM

Sounds good with me...Hey Matt are you gonna come out again?

TJMatt 05-21-2006 09:12 PM

Probably not going to make this one guys. 10% chance i'll be there. Other plans with my younger sister have to fall through first. Have fun out there for me though yeah.

so i actually have to hook up my cb thats been sitting in my garage for a month???
joking i cant wait, actually finished my bed bar saturday, just gotta mount it and adjust the swr...
and Ryan, no one wants to go to big bear, roll with us :hillbill:

ecchamberlin 05-22-2006 11:15 AM

Matt that sucks but I also agree that they need to be ready for Socal fire season. Oh well. I agree with Coral Canyon being the new location. We could actually do both. If it is as easy as Matt says we could run through there and then go up the road to CC if we wanted. Only back thing with that is airing down then up then down again. Although it sounds like airing down may not be neede for carvace anymore.

I will go anywhere in the area you guys want to go. I do like CC because I know it and there are some off shoot trails that are really tuff but totally bypassable for those that don't want to push it as far.

Far as I am concerned it is Mikes thread so you tell us. And yeah hook up the CB brother!

miguelitro 05-22-2006 11:22 AM

ive done corral, well as much as i am comfortable with which is up to bronco peak on the east side and back down that same way, and the espinosa? loop which is a little fun but not much...i'd like to hit carveacre and if we are up to it we can go to corral after wards, that would be a full day of wheeling fun!!!

ecchamberlin 05-22-2006 06:54 PM

Have you ever done sidewinder or gunslinger at Corral Canyon? Those are both really tight and have some good rock sections.

Marc P 05-22-2006 07:12 PM

Only the last little bit of Carveacre was mowed. It will still be the exact way it was a couple weeks ago.....plenty of challenging ruts and Pancake Rock :rockin:

I never have in the truck, breeze through em all the time on a MC and they do look real fun! Maybe we'll have to hit em up. I need to fab up a front skid this week and if it goes on as well as i hope then i'm down for some fun stuff.
gotta hit IMS this afternoon. Boy i might have to take a day off to get this stuff done!!!
Mike

TJMatt 05-23-2006 09:04 AM

Completely agreed Marc. Only a section of the backside has been torn-up. The front will still be plenty of fun. Trust me.

miguelitro 05-23-2006 09:30 AM

I agree with him agreeing...

ecchamberlin 05-24-2006 06:07 AM

I agree with you agreeing about his agreement!

We should get a up to date list of who is going so we don't leave someone behind at Carl's Jr because somebody is ALWAYS late. Watch it will be me this time now that I said something...
