What does this button do?
I just bought a 1993 pickup 5 speed 4x4. has a little orange button on the dash by the dash light knob, the face has broken off so there is no lettering. Any idea what it could be?

Clutch Start Cancel.
Allows you to start the engine, (shifter in neutral, parking brake on) without pushing the clutch pedal in. I have read of others using this to get out of tight spots, on steep hills, while wheeling, though I have never tried it myself. I use it in the mornings, to start and warm the engine up, without having to climb into the cab. |

Thanks for the edit MudHippy.
Here you go VAhunter. Found in the "Newbie Tech Section" :readit: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f120...button-246564/ |
I just bypass the clutch pedal down sensor. Dont need it, never have. Then turn that button into something useful like a switch for more lights.

I have used mine in really hairy situations where I didn't want to let off the brake and used it to creep forward in gear while starting, also use it when I am lazy and don't want to get all the way in the truck when warming it up.

Unless the last owner has it wired up to a cap in a block of C-4 under the drivers seat.:hillbill:

Always need more lights

I used mine once to get out of a mud hole. Engine became water logged and would not run. Pressed the CC button and creeped it out so I could get in there and do work without standing in the mud hole to do it.
Works fine until your battery dies. Lol |

I use it every day to warm her up in the winter while I open my gate and clean the ice and crap off. I dont have to get in to start it. I can just lean in, put the key in, press the cc button , verify its in neutral and fire her up. I can open the gate, clean all the snow off and get into a closer to warmed up truck. I love the cc button

Tellin you guys, just bypass it so its always able to start. One less step every morning. Safety features are for idiots anyways. If you need the truck to tell you what not to do, well then you shouldnt be driving it uh? I dont ever have to push in the clutch to start it. Even when im in the truck. Much better. Average person pushes in a clutch 200billion times a day why make more unnecessary pedal movements.
Does a spaceship have a seatbelt reminder? |
Both answers are right. It's called a Clutch Start Cancel switch. Toyota actually installed it so you could use the ultra gear reduction if you get really, really stuck. In first gear, in 4WD low you can push in that button and turn the key and you will be pulling with the gear ratio of the starter motor. Much higher gear ratio than even 4WD low.
Most people just use it to start their truck in the winter without getting in though. |
