LED dash light voltage issue?

Guys,

I traded out my factory light bulbs for blue LEDs in the dash, cig lighter, keyhole, ashtray, climate control, and glove box, and most work fine (I ordered from superbrightleds.com).

However, the "ECT" and "A/T Temp" indicators will not work with the LEDs; they will only light up with the original bulbs. Also, the "battery" and "rear brakes" indicators stay on the entire time the truck is running when using LEDS. They don't stay on when the original bulb is used.

My gear indicator is not lighting up, so I assume it won't work with an LED either- I tried turning the ECT and A/T Temp LEDs both ways in the sockets, to no avail. I also made sure the LEDs had a snug fit in the sockets.

What's going on here? Could this be a voltage issue? Why only in these few instances? I tried a few LEDs in each socket.

I'd like to get this project wrapped up and my dash reassembled. Help!

did you try swapping bulbs?

I put leds in my Brake light, 4x4 light, high beam light and they all work great....

They're polarized, you have to switch them around.

Do you know by any chance how many you needed to do the whole thing in LED.

I'll count 'em and let you know. I ordered more than I needed, as I ordered prior to taking the dash apart.

I tried switching the few that were constantly staying on or not coming on at all. I turned them both ways, so polarization isn't the issue.

I also notice that blue light shines throught the low fuel light at all times. Let's just hope the light still functions.

n2o302,

I needed 14 small (#74) LEDs for the dash gauges, 1 for the ignition light, 1 for the A/C panel, 1 for the ashtray, 1 for the cig lighter, 1 for the glove box and 1 for the gear indicator (total of 20). I needed 6 larger (#194) LEDS for the dash gauges. See the attached pic.

I have other pix of the finished install at https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...00/index4.html . I would recommend using a #194 LED base with multiple LEDs (say, 5 or 6) on it- I bought the # 194 LEDs with one LED and a wide angle lense on it, and it isn't very bright. Other than that, I'm satisfied. As I have the reverse indiglo gauges, the dim 194s aren't a problem for me.
