High-wattage headlight bulbs?
I just found some 100/80 watt H4 bulbs (actual wattage). Any of you guys run this wattage, do you find other drivers flashing you? How I understand it is, even though the low beam on this bulb is higher than the stock high beams, its the beam pattern that counts. High beams throw light up and around, and low beams throw it straight down. So if the low beam wattage is a little higher, it won't blind people as much as an 80 watt high beam pattern?
Also, is it really necessary to upgrade the harness? I know lots of you have done that, but I calculated the amperage and a 100 watt bulb will only draw about 8 amps, and each side headlight is fused at 10 amps. I know without the upgraded harness, I might not get the full potential of the bulb, but I'm fine with that as long as it does not fry my stock wiring. I did search on this subject, and came up with a lot of threads about the upgraded harness, and a couple threads that said some people got flashed, (that was with a 90/100 watt bulb though) Thanks! |
kinda like working out and only working on your ankles. i would definately upgrade the harness. i have upgraded it on both my trucks and what a difference it made
|
I upgraded the harness and am running 90/130w bulbs. Makes a huge difference, and haven't got flashed at all, (I aimed them again with the new bulbs)
|
well, unless it will fry the stock wiring, I will just test the higher wattage bulbs to see if anyone flashes at me. Then I will upgrade the harness if I feel I am not blinding anyone

what kind (manufactuer) bulb did you guys get?
I cant find anything with those kind of wattages. Is the Osram just 55/60? I plan on buying rogers harness also. |
I got mine from bulbs.com. They also have 100/80W. They do require a $20 minimum order. But 4 H4s and a couple H3s puts you over that. The manufacturer is Eiko. Not sure where to 130/90W or ever heard of 'em.

They are very cheap. |
Several posts on here about the reflector not handling the heat from the 130/90's. Stick to the 100/80's max.

Here is a link to the bulbs I plan on purchasing, 80/100 watt, and they are supposedly a bright white like the silverstars. This is for a set of three, they also have them sold as individual bulbs, but it is just cheaper to get them 3 in a package.

Ill let everyone know when I get the xenon bulbs from JC Whitney, see how they compare to the silverstars I had.
On another note, does anyone know the gauge of the wires going to the headlights on a 00 runner? |
