Hella 500 pics. (w/ where I ran the wires to the roof)

Taking photos is a little harder these days since my digital crapped out on me. Had to take them with the 35mm then get the photos transfered to CD. I also only have the computer at work, which also makes things tricky :D

Anyhoo, some of you have been wondering what they look like, so here we are!

Some more.

The switch on the top right... don't copy me on that location, it's a very bad place to try and put a switch. I spent about an hour just trying to fit it in there.

looks great!

thanks for those pics.. im gonna mount my rack with 4 lights total on it (2 up front, 2 out back), so this is helpful.

jackson (who sold the rack to me) ran the wires out back in the hatch.. so ill see which way works best.

Scofco 02-09-2006 05:22 AM

Make sure you mount them as far back as you can. I made the mistake of not doing so.
I think I wired them up a total of 3 times :D

"Yeah, I think that's far enough back... *click* Aw crap!"

Tends to light up the windshield and the dashboard when they are too far forward. You live you learn.

ah, i see. well i think mine mounts behind the sunroof, so i should be ok.

Sweet! I really like the look of the roof rack with the 500's. Plus the 500's on the bumper make for a really uniform appearance.. nice! I just need to get some real fogs not too... Where did you get the rack? Also, I'm really glad you didn't sell your 4Runner... it's a beaut!

ken.vs.ryu 02-09-2006 10:57 AM

wow that looks great! are the bumper lights 500's also? can i switch the fogs on with my highbeams and another switch?

Scofco 02-10-2006 05:13 AM

I only know enough about electrical to get me by... but I wouldn't see why you couldn't.
Perhaps someone else could chime in.

If you mean that the fog lights come on with your high beam when the other switch is on, that's easy. Whatever wire you have at the switch that does not go to your relay you hook up to your high beam hot wire.

Racer944 02-10-2006 07:55 AM

it's not difficult at all. You can set it up to either come on with which ever beam, with only a switch, or when it is on a certain beam, it comes on only with a switch. I used to work at an auto shop and got my boss to hook mine up for me.

Love the set-up Scofco, looks great. I personally put two Hella 500 Driving lights on my bumper like you did, just wider set, and will be putting another pair in between there, too.

Also, Scofco, my bank account hates you, because your mods keep killing it :great:

Hey Steve,

Nice install.

Scofco 02-10-2006 12:04 PM

Also, I used the Yakima mounts to mount them onto the rack. My rack isn't Yakima and has smaller bars so I had to modify the mounts a bit to make them fit tight.

I also had to get LONGER BOLTS as the bolts that came with the lights aren't long enough to go through the mounts and out the other side.

Thanks for the compliments, and thanks again Roadrunner for the lights :D
