Someone should slap this guy....

Took a perfectly good 4Runner and RUINIED IT! Now he wants 10 grand for it..... :flush:

huntnfreak 10-16-2008 04:50 AM

That thing is ugly!

saitotiktmdog 10-16-2008 05:05 AM

I would not pay 10,000 for that. I might pay 10 bucks for it. What a worthless waste of a runner

X-AWDriver 10-16-2008 05:07 AM

If it was 2wd it would be forgiveable but 4wd and a 5 speed?!?!

misterzee 10-16-2008 05:15 AM

I laugh at the smart investment LOL
"Invested over $15k, my loss is your gain"

trbizwiz 10-16-2008 05:55 AM

ditto on the 2wd. Lowered is not my thing, but why waste a more expensive 4wd truck for this type of mod??? now he could lift it back up, throw some 33 inch nitto's on those 20's and have a slick looking mall crawler that is all wheather capable and probably rides better too. Either way he wont touch $10 grand for a '98, most are selling for 6 to 8K, and mods dont seem to matter. I saw a TRD with TRD supercharger for $6500, very tempting. I offered to trade him my honda aquatrax, plus boot, but no dice, and sadly for me no cash. My '92 is eating all that up.

Belize Off Road Team 10-16-2008 05:55 AM

At least its not a low rider that would bottom out on speed bumps

Gokumono 10-16-2008 06:46 AM

4WD would help with racing traction, 5 speed helps with acceleration, toyotas have the best quality engine........ but his BIG downfall. 4Runners arent made for speed and that sort of thing!
And WHY would you waste $15k on all that? Waste.... a waste...

Some moron with money will buy it.....most likely.

jdanglesyota 10-16-2008 07:01 AM

what the hell was he thinking!!!!!!

OSU4Runner 10-16-2008 07:02 AM

I think it looks pretty good...for a lowered 4Runner, I've seen alot worse. At least the guy had some taste while modding. It may not be what a 4Runner is designed for, but gotta give him props. Not everybody likes wheelin

I disagree. he had no taste at all. That why it looks ugly.

I dont think it looks pretty good, i would say ok.
But you make a good point, its one of those labor of love things, just like what we do when we lift and whatnot.
Although, he shouldnt have ruined a 4wd truck like that, hell, he can take all the crap off, and ill trade him my dads 2wd 5speed...I think that works...
Speaking of, I get to drive my dads truck today :banger:

zlathim 10-16-2008 07:34 AM

I think it looks ok too. Not really my thing, but for what it is, it is ok. I agree that a 4x2 platform would have probably been better to start with, but to each their own.

904_runner 10-16-2008 07:36 AM

Honestly, who cares?

its not your truck, you didn't do that and you don't have to drive it.

its personal preference along with everything else we do in life. If he liked it when he did it thats all that matters.

aviator 10-16-2008 11:09 AM

I thought it was pretty good looking, a clean well executed set-up. I would'nt go 10k for it but without seeing the interior it is one of the best "street modified" runners I've seen.
That aussie kid's 2wd dbl. cab looks like it's on the right track too... I think his idea of using an 01 explorer front valance is very interesting. Not something I'd have thought of but it works...
This may be an off-road oriented forum but we have room for everyone here.

You are correct but there's nothing wrong with posting opinions either on it since this thread seems to start from a negative point so a majority of the negative posts would be expected but the others can weigh in positively for a lively discussion.

Johannes 10-16-2008 11:45 AM

I agree, to each their own, but 4WD? Seriously? Why? 5spd? I'd really like to ask the guy why he would choose to take that vehicle and lower it when he could just as easily have settled for a chevy blazer or gmc jimmy that wasn't 4WD, at least those look like they were MEANT to be lowered when done right.

I still can't look at that and think it was meant to be that way.

slisdexia 10-16-2008 11:56 AM

I forget whose quote I am stealing, but it's like finding the woman of your dreams and giving her a sex change. Sad sad sad...

Whitey13 10-16-2008 12:11 PM

If you think that is a lot of $$, take a look around here and see what people are asking for their junk.

1stgen4gunner 10-16-2008 12:59 PM

HEHEHEHHEHE! its goofy lookin. But then again I suppose everybody has their own thing. It is however a waste of a 4 wheel drive runner though.

sixt5 10-16-2008 04:48 PM

he might as well have a 2wd though. put it in 4x4 and with those 22's and rubber band tires, he's not going to get any more traction then a regular 2wd lol.

:good:

it should be a 2wd though.

86Toyrunna 10-16-2008 05:29 PM

all i can say is that if seattle wasnt like 3 1/2 hours from here id go check it out.. and reach back and slap him.. then point and laugh at it lol as for the purple hilux.. well see after i got out of highschool i was an aprentice at a shop that built minis ( hydraulic and air suspensions, bodydrops, you name it we did it pretty much) and to be honest.. thats just the tip of the ice berg, people are nuts.. flat out nuts lol

shancerlelby 10-16-2008 09:51 PM

im diggin the runner actually it isnt super riced out like i expected. be a decent daily driver but it woulda been better if it was 2wd. As for the purple G ride im sure it rocks with the comodore motor but i've seen better with the lexus 1uz v8 :) that would be a rocket ship.

apalmer1 10-16-2008 11:01 PM

blagh theres another reason i carry a 12 gauge in my back seat.

hillbillydeelux 10-16-2008 11:26 PM

how could you go wheelin with that body kit hanging so low? plus i bet those tires dont allow that soft of a ride offroad. what the hell man?:horse:

stormin94 10-16-2008 11:48 PM

Other than the rediculously high price tag, I'd buy it. If it was $5000, I'd fly up there, and buy it, since there is not one single "mod" that guy did that isn't completely reversable. Just throw away that body kit, ditch the 22's and air suspension, and put the stock stuff back on, and whataya know, you've got a 3rd gen 5speed 4x4 for cheap.

Bako88 10-17-2008 12:44 AM

Hell Yeah! I'd wheel that thing just like it sits! Hit the 1st river crossing I came to in 5th gear pinned with the front left wheel lifted up ghetto style! Yo!

That was a joke! And so's that Runner. Remember when guys used to lower their 1 ton dulies?

aviator 10-17-2008 06:59 AM

I still like that runner... I'd suicide the rear doors though and tint the windows. Faux tiger skin inserts and I'd be pimpin' baby yeah!

what are you getting at? sir are you profiling?

personally i would be more worried about a Toyota full of rednecks, than a pimped out 4runner with some rich kid in it!

bobs01sr5 10-17-2008 12:34 PM

I like the front bumper on the truck but why lower a truck ??
It's like drinking de-caf coffee or eating fat free ice cream!
Doesn't that screw up the 4WD ?

Don't think so, I've seen some seriously slammed 4wds on air suspension around here... they tell me it's more or less the same as if you had a cranked lift in, a little stress on the CVs is all... if they want to "mild" off-road [like on a pot-holed gravel back road lol] they just air all the way up and they're a little higher then stock...
Which front bumper the runner or the dbl.cab w/ford bumper?

bobs01sr5 10-20-2008 11:19 AM

Oh the 4Runner sorry !
Interesting I was told that lowering a 4WD will screw it up I had a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and wanted to take out the factory gap which I did lowered it very little but they warned me I was taking a risk with the AWD is this different ?

aviator 10-20-2008 04:19 PM

Not really I don't think. The problem with the 4wd lowering is it stresses the CV joints much the same way that over lifting does. You may also run into some clearance issues with the drive shafts but with the fixed diff. position on the independent front axle yotas it should'nt be an issue.
on your awd it was a similar concern with changing the driveline geometry but as long as you were'nt crazy with it I would'nt be overly concerned.

EvaMonky 10-21-2008 01:09 AM

:king:

I opened up a can'o'worms with this one huh?

Remeber it's just my opinion. I think it's silly to take a 4WD truck/suv and lower it. No matter what kind of truck it is.

I have nothing against lowering trucks and making them fast. That's why my XRunner is for, but it's 2WD.

I agree it could have been much worse. But this just isn't my style. So I thought I would point it out and see what other people though lol.

In the end, this guy got more exposure. So I'm sure he's not complaining.

Thanks for the laughs though guys!
