Lug nut question: minimum # of thread wraps needed for safety?
I have a set of LC wheels laying around with no tires, they are the ones which using cone shape lug nuts(conical, without washer). currently I have the limited edition wheels on with the mag lug nuts(with washer), for DD.
out of curiosity, I tested the LC wheels today because of the bigger Tundra brakes. they cleared the calipers just fine, but I noticed the cone lug nuts only have 5-3/4 wraps around the wheel lugs. will that be enough for driving safely? I'm planning getting some 265 size MT tires on them. |
You generally want at least one stud diameter worth of thread engagement:
