driveshaft question
I was wondering if a rear driveshaft out of a 86 extra cab 4x4 shortbed with automatic transmission would fit in my 85 extra cab 4x4 shortbed with 5 speed? I know the bolts will line up but i didnt know if they changed anything up since the went with ifs.I also wasnt sure on the driveshaft length in standard transmission vs. auto.

I think the automatic one is longer compared to the manual one.
the automatic trans and case being all one unit are more compact hence a longer drive shaft. I tried to go this way myself what is wrong with your drive shaft??:camp: |
Yes I figured the lengths would be different.I was hoping they were not.
My driveshaft, the u joints are wore out and it vibrates when you let of the the gas on hwy. The driveshaft from the automatic truck the joints were in great shape so i just figured swap the driveshafts out. |

It will fit just fine, wont be exactly the same length but you will never know the difference when driving.

Driveshafts to function properly as balanced should be the correct length.
Measure flange to flange and check. :wabbit2: |
why don't you just replace the u-joints? will be less than 50$ and will take an hour or 2.
