91 P/U LOUD creaking/popping in front when turning, CAN'T FIGURE OUT!!
I have a 91 Pickup DLX and every time I cut the wheel in either direction there is a very loud popping and groaning coming from somewhere in the front end. I have checked all the moving areas and I can't find any rub spots. I also greased and lubed EVERYTHING and still have the issue
Any suggestions are welcomed |
It happened to me too.

Steering stops.
Try seaching a little. This is covered at least once everyother week. |
have you done a search, it was covered not to long ago. it might be the turn stops needing greased.

The part circled in yellow hits the crecent shape. You can grease them everyonce in a while, or get new rubber end caps from the stealership. There are 4 stops total, make sure you get them all. |
I tried the search before I posted but got nothing, I don't want to be "that guy" but I still haven't totally figured this site out yet.

Its prob the steering stops. Its extremely common on toyotas. You can put some lithium grease there and it will quiet down for a little while...

the only way to learn is to ask questions. so don't worry about it.

^true, but not true at the same time. Most of what i know has been taken from countless hours of reading over this site. Oh and wikipedia:D

I am getting the hang of things, I just figured out through another thread that I have to replace my catalytic converter, very good to know.

read toyotanation faq must read in the 89-95 forum, the faq on these trucks here and the toyota bible on pirate and after a few hours you can go from asking questions to answering and knowing what will be going to on your truck in what order an x amount of miles.

if could be your steering stops, OR your CV joints binding because they need to be replaced.
|
CV's?
Have a 2000 4Runner and I am having getting a quick pop/knock sound (and feel in the wheel) whenever I turn to the right past about 50% (and moving forward). After reading up here, my hunch is that it is the CV joint and not the steering stop (I had that issue with a toyota I owned a long time ago and this sounds different). Is there any easy way to determine if the CV joint is bad without taking it to a mechanic to diagnose?
