1991 4runner hub not locking

Axle spins for the 4wd but it does not lock to the hubs??? it worked great before it sat for a couple months??? Well when I put it into 4hi nothing happens no light or anything, don't even hear noise, but wen I put it in 4lo, the same thing happens except it goes slower cus its in 4lo, but my neighbor is a mechanic and he gave it a quick check before he left for vacation and he said the axle for the 4wd is not locking to the hubs, so he thinks it might be on of the hubs, but i need to fix it because there is a lot of snow here where i live about 2 feet, and he is not coming back till like saturday so i need help?? And there automatic hubs and its a 5speed 4runner v6.

A LITTLE more information is needed. Please elaborate with some details.

If its a stock 4Runner setup, it will be ADD.

And going on that assumption, its not the hubs that are causing the problem. With ADD, the hubs are always locked, via lock plates. There is no way from the front axles to NOT be spinning, unless you shatter/break something wheeling. Just sitting for a while won't cause said breakage.

Likely, your ADD actuator is not working, or is corroded.

So it's probably the ADD actuator not either hubs??? and do u know how much the would cost??

For ADD you have drive flanges not locking hubs. Basically drive flanges are like hubs that are permanently locked. ADD problems are usually related to mis-plumbed vacuum lines:

Well check it out and see, there are full troubleshooting steps on the web page above. Most common issue I have seen is vacuum lines that are either not connected or swapped (so that the ADD actuator unlocks in 4WD).

well i check the vacumm lines under the hood and they look correct too me but i couldnt locate the ones by the wheel..

There are no vacuum lines by the wheel. The only vacuum lines run down to the ADD actuator in the front diff.

4Crawler already pointed out that you have drive flanges, so its not possible to ever unlock the CV axle from the hub/spindle.
