Which springs to go with?
Im needing to get a new set of springs to be able to haul my boat easier as you can see from the pic! I can sit on the tailgate and just about get on the overload. I was looking at the CS020R but im not sure i need that much spring, but this boat is a big pig. All i have in the front is spacers and its sitting at roughly 24” center axle to fender and rear is roughly 22.5. Any input on what to go with would be appreciated. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...f1f43cac5.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...59b1bf675.jpeg Well here they are installed. I will get hooked up and see what it does in a day or so. Rear is sitting 1” higher than the front right now with just a single 3 mile trip https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...8ceb6b017.jpeg |
I'd recommend the zuk mod with the black magic 12" 125lb springs... I've put a pretty good load on mine without it squatting... and improved the ride tremendously...
|
I'd do helper bags before the zuk mod. Besides the zuk mod being a little hokey, the bags will let you adjust to what you need for any load.
|
Nothing hokey about the zuk mod... it's simply another option... despite some having negative replies I have done and am very satisfied with the results and I'm pretty picky...
we've owned lots of vehicles, from classic muscle cars, classic trucks, performance corvettes... and have been a 1st gen 4runner owner for nearly 30 years doing all my own repairs... and the zuk mod is a viable option... |
After some talks i went ahead and just ordered new OME CS019R spring set. Hope it works out! Should be done with old springs and not have to worry with if the springs ever break. |

regardless of what springs you use, that boat isn't remotely a pig, which demonstrates how worn your springs are. |

Curious about your height measurements with your worn out leaf springs. I have OME Dakar mediums on my 93 xcab, paired with stock shackles and BJ spacers up front and 33x12.5 tires, and my current broken in ride height is 22.5” center axle to bottom fender on all 4 corners I would consider airbags too, have had them on work trucks that haul stuff and they worked great |

I have a 2wd main leaf on it and from what i remember the wrap of the eyelet comes off the bottom and the 4wd is wrapped to center. |

I don't ever haul any trailers with my truck, but I do load up with mulch, compost, etc at the landscape supply, which is at least 800-1000lbs in the bed. Handles it great, it does drop down an inch or two but that's normal given the load I'm carrying.

Tried to remove the clamshell but ran into more problems. Not sure what im going to do at this point but ive got it together for the time being. Spring perch is roughly 3-1/16 wide and springs are roughly 2-3/8 wide. Bushings i made were .849 od x .550 id x .510 h https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...3df65fbf7.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...869529219.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...814113667.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...ea805d826.jpeg |

i know its a light boat but is that hitch is seriously only attached with 2 bolts on each side?
been towing for 35+ years and well to me it looks like it could use a bit more attachment points |
Pic is a tad decieving but right now it sits level with the boat hooked up. Drops about 1.75 when i hook up to the boat. Hope itll settle down some, i dont really want to raise the front anymore https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...7e9fa2a92.jpeg |

OME mediums with OME bushings. Now if that front spring perch has 14mm bolt, do the chevy spring.
