Show off your swapped in seats!

Gonna be replacing the factory 1piece vinyl bench in my x-cab and was looking around for good ideas. SR5's would be great but are getting harder to find around town. Got me thinking about how many guys here don't even have toyota truck/4runner seats in their rigs and I'd love to see some pics and stories about how creative everyone has been with seat swaps.

metalhed 11-18-2010 10:46 AM

Just used 95 4runner seats, bolted right in. No holes to drill- nothing

survivorman97 11-18-2010 11:21 AM

http://www.pandin.net/seat.htm

here is someone who made the 60/40s in to buckets. I am hoping to do the same soon because like you said the SR5 seats are really hard to find. And this way i can take it to an upholstery shop and get new foam and everything to make them nice and comfy. I think they will end up looking like factory seats when its all done and all for about $100 at the shop I am going to.

tumor21 11-18-2010 12:17 PM

wow, will give some creativity points over to that guy. They look pretty factory-bucket when he was done considering what they used to be.

Mini-threadjack, but speaking of seats...
Has anyone swapped in heated seats into 1st gen 4Runner, and if so, from what? My friend's late-model Jetta had them, and they were soooo nice, it got me thinking about if it was possible to swap them in. Anyone try it?

Outsane 11-18-2010 01:22 PM

I have seen kits to add the heating element to a seat..

MR2 Buckets, they're very nice and particularly good if you're tall. Much more head room now and I'm 6'3"

fronts bolt right in and the rear required a little modification with some stock steel. You Could just drill holes in the floor, but I didn't want to.

I have the same seats, mine are just faded :(

NorCalWheeler 11-18-2010 02:26 PM

I got my out of a 89 Celica (sp?) from pick n pull while they had a sale on seats and they were only $12 each. They bolted right up I just needed a spacer and longer bolt for the back holes.

Do 3rd gen 4Runner seats fit in a 91 SR5 4Runner? Mine are trashed and with a 3 year old and his temper tantrums, I'd like leather seats so I can wipe up stuff easier.

good question. I'd like to know that as well. If they'll go into a '91 Runner, they should fit my '87

I put the seats from the Geo tracker I had, engin seized, in my 1990. I had to use the tung from an old lawn tractor trailer,It was like 3" c chanle, to fab one side rail because of the seats are 3" different from the inside to the outside. These suckers sit about three inches higher then stock. That's good and bad. Good for my shortty wife bad for my head.

3rd gen 4runner/Tacoma seats have completely different mounts than older trucks/4runners.

I put a set of 01 4runner buckets in my 92 excab. I had to cut the mounts off the 4runner seats and custom make some mounts out of my 60/40 brackets.

It was a pain...

Zelephant 11-20-2010 07:39 PM

We were asking about MK.III Supra seats, I believe.

yeehaw1 11-20-2010 08:03 PM

Wow, really got me wantin to hurry up and find some nice buckets, trashed or not, long as the foams good i'll reapholster them, can't be tha hard can it?

Teuf 11-20-2010 08:11 PM

Most older driver side buckets are worn n torn on edge, but if you are good with a needle and thread, go for it.

brianbloom516 11-21-2010 06:56 AM

need to find good price on good seat covers

anyone know a few good sites to order good seat covers from? my toyota is a work truck and they need to be thick and durable. also some new carpet would be good. i was planning on scotch-guarding the livin hell outta it before i install it.

toyotabull 11-21-2010 08:41 AM

Ya'll will have to wait till I get back home, but I installed leather seat from an 89 conquest tsi. Black leather, and full adjustable, even to the width on the back from side to side. 4 more days.

You can get them to fit with just prying them around but I don't recommend it. Building a custom bracket is the best way to go.

The holes are very close, however.

For reference here's how they're powered:

Seat bottom: front of seat bottom goes up/down, rear of seat bottom goes up/down.

Slider: power slides forward/backward

Seat back: power lumbar, and power side bolsters that really hold you in the seat.

Non-powered: entire seat back can be moved forward/backward (angle) with the adjustment knob, the headrest has four different positions forward/back, and up/down.

And if you get a newer (90+?) set, then the back angle is powered as well.

Two2Three 11-21-2010 11:36 AM

I put a set of Sparco seats into my 91 MR2, so I will be fitting my stock 91 MR2 Turbo seats into my 87 Truck. I will post pics when installed.

I will be putting stock leather seats in my truck this next week!! Ill get some pics up when Im done

No problem. :) Just make sure you grab the lumbar/side bolster switch out of the center console area of the Supra you remove the seats from, as well as the wiring harness pigtail from that area. There are other power wires (for the seat bottom movement) coming from the floor under the carpet of the Supra- cut those out as well.

Then check out the TEWD to wire them up: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...x?S=Main&P=097
