Redline?

anyone know where a 22r tach's out? i got an aftermarket tach like 5 mins ago and it has an adjustable redline but i donno where to put it. i dont want to do this to my best friend, my 22r: :pop:

red89yota 09-23-2007 03:23 PM

Mine redline stops at 8,000 22re but its proubly the same

Jay351 09-23-2007 03:38 PM

I heard it was just under 6,000rpm for the 22re, its around 6500 on the v6.

and of course the tach goes to 8,000rpm... like we are ever gonna rev it that high.

dijlop 09-23-2007 04:37 PM

i never had a tach. try this. run it in 1st gear till the engine cuts. then shift. watch the rpms. set the tach redline at about 250 rpms before the engine cuts out. thats how id do it.

ya, thats what i was thinkin, especially cause it has almost 200k on it. does anyone know where the negative side of the ignition coil is? i need to connect a wire. thanks

the 3vze (v6) has a redline of 5800rpm. I believe the 22re's is the same. The 3vzfe found in the camry however has a redline of 6500rpm...

86toysr5 09-23-2007 08:15 PM

i thinks its 5600

CoedNaked 09-23-2007 08:17 PM

Make your redline about 4500 RPM's because there's not much point in pulling past that in a truck.

jcfb 09-23-2007 08:19 PM

Yeah, I had always heard 5500RPM was the redline. I'd probably set it at least 700RPMs below that.

Jay351 09-23-2007 08:52 PM

sorry I spaced out, its just under 6,000 for the engine.

But like Coed said, there is no real point to winding your little 22r past 4500rpm.

I thought the Camry was a 2.5...

I love how quick it revs though. My 3.0 seems to rev much slower. Maybe because it's spinning the bulky flywheel too.

just a 22re 09-24-2007 12:45 AM

my 22re dont hate me and i bounce her off the rev all the time about 3 maybe 55 times a day dry reving or 1st 2nd and 3rd pulls but mines also front wheel drive do to the fact that i broke my drive shaft drifting her but yeah i dont really know the rev cut or black out of the 22re but my shift light is set to 5k she pulls strong all the way to rev but i guess my 22re is a little retarded to though lol

stormin94 09-24-2007 01:02 AM

Well, My 3.0 hits the limiter at right around 6,000RPM, I've never taken it there, but I've taken my friend's there...:hillbill: Just take it out of gear, and punch it, see how high it goes until it bounces. Then set it there. You won't hurt anything, because the rev limiter is there to protect you, just don't hold it there for very long, like 3-5 seconds, MAX

oh ok, i misunderstood dijlop the first time i guess. scratch my earlier comment. x3 on the above.

StretchASU 09-24-2007 07:38 AM

Stand on the gas pedal and watch the tach...when you start to hear the valves float (It will REV really high, drop down in RPM's then hold there) set the limiter just before you heard the valves float :bigok:

Go ahead and just set it around 5600 and you should be ok.

gametom 09-24-2007 07:45 AM

my redline is right around 5k-5.5k on the factory tach i don't have access to the truck right now or i'd look if you want me to be more specific i can look when i get home tonight

stormin94 09-24-2007 06:27 PM

You have to remember, just because it is the "red line" doesn't mean that that is the rev limiter. I hope that makes some sense...

rdlsz24 09-24-2007 06:38 PM

I don't take mine past 4000 rpms lol

Just because you can do something doesnt make it a good idea. What is the point of redlining the engine when the sweet spot on the power curve is between 2200-2800?
