power steering knocking
the power steering in my 95 tacoma 4x4 is knocking intermittently and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I just ordered a new one and will replace it. Anything i should look out for?

also need to know if anyone has any secrets to bleeding the new pump

A 95 Toyota pickup is just a pickup and they didn't make Tacos until 95.5, so you might have better luck posting this in that section, depending on actually what your pickup is.
Regardless, are you swapping out the pump or the steering box or both? It is all pretty much a straightforward task. You'll have to bleed the whole system, not the pump, to get the air out. After you get the new pump on and fill back up the reservoir, put the front axle up on jack stands, crank the vehicle, and cycle the steering back and forth about 20 times. Turn off, let it sit about 30 minutes, check the reservoir. Refill if necessary. Repeat. :guitar: |
thanks. Must be a 95.5. It says Tacoma

it sounds like you just needed new bushings, about a 13$ part, you might want to order some poly ones while your installing the rack to prevent this from happening again

mine was cutting out and i put a new belt on and tightened it up and it works better then before.

the knocking stops when i turn the wheel, so i figured it was the pump. I never knew about the bushings though. Thanks i'll look into that tomorrow.
