lockrite problem "clunking" "jerking" jerking need advice

ok i got a problem!!

installed it and drove detroit ez locker and drove up to Tahoe about 120mi round trip all highway. first, every few secs it would Bang then jerk me left or right. but the big problem is a few times a min it would BANG rev up, sometimes times 200rpm and jerk the truck BBBAD. is that normal, to me its un drivable and is going to brake something else, only does that over about 25mpg. im going to take it out if thats normal.

i have never been in a truck with a lockrite so i have no idea whats normal.

bolth tires spin in dirt now and unlock in parkinglots

i know this is NOT it but, felt like i sucked a bolt through the ring pinion.

the lockrite Manufacturer Part Number: 813a028

got off ebay!

even came with extra parts.... 9pins, 7 springs, few extra spring caps

i think i set the springs and pins up right. (ill post a paing shot pic)

thanks for the help yotatech

Check your tire pressure. Sounds too simple but mine would act similar when one tire was lower than the other.

drkblu4runner 10-03-2010 10:52 PM

ya i looked at all of zuk's installs but the spring and pins are different. i will check tire psi tho

muddpigg 10-04-2010 05:23 AM

If the tires check out. Did you check the carrier tolerances when you installed?

1styota4X4 10-04-2010 06:05 AM

my have frt and rear lock rights in my 85 and every now and again after i go around a turn it it will pop (im assuming going back to normal position). What your describing seems like they are to tight.

drkblu4runner 10-04-2010 09:19 AM

ya about ten thousandths. it it may be too tight because of the extra mm of tension on all 4 springs, idk. i think im going to have to take it all apart again tho

drkblu4runner 10-04-2010 12:31 PM

i definitely am NOT suppose to use that extra spring cap look here
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...locker-105471/

im just hoping thats it but idk

drkblu4runner 10-05-2010 09:21 PM

going to take the 3rd out again and take those spring caps out and hope thats it. any one have any input?

drkblu4runner 10-05-2010 10:38 PM

tires are almost new and with same psi

drkblu4runner 10-05-2010 11:54 PM

does this look normal, there is about 1mm difference

drkblu4runner 10-05-2010 11:56 PM

those are for the front. should i bother installing them?

Foglifter 10-06-2010 02:05 AM

Doesn't look right at all. Can you send it back for replacement?
Also, Ive never had issues with unequal tire pressure. The lockrite reacts to tire slip.
Unfortunately it sounds like you need to pull the third again and check your assembly.

drkblu4runner 10-06-2010 06:07 PM

took it all apart today and took out the spring cap. it didnt help. going to have to take it all apart again and put the spider gears back in

Foglifter 10-06-2010 06:19 PM

Might give Richmond a call. If anything they can send you an instruction sheet. I know it's a PITA, hang in there.

put powertrac in and it works GREAT. cant even tell its back there. going to try the ezlocker in the front tho. hope its ok.

muddpigg 11-02-2010 10:15 PM

So what was the verdict with the locrite? Did you buy it used?
