Key Panels

some of you followed as i developed tailgate and door panels close to a year ago now. i steadily sold those and branched out into 1st gen pickup door cards, and finally got a well fitting cargo deck panel set out. most recently i came out with a 2nd gen 4runner tailgate trim panel. all of my panels use oem fasteners, but i have had some CNC'ed without fastener holes for people who wanted to use trim screws. im currently working on the "mid" panels for 1st gen 4runners, and have reached out to work with a company to does "heat molding" with ABS plastics to try and produce a B-pillar seatbelt upper trim piece. i have been fairly successful with the cargo deck panels. just wanted to thank those of you who helped with recommendations and such, and that followed along with the development. i have actually had a branding logo developed and i even have decals that go out with orders now, all in good fun.

i got a prototype panel for the passenger area. i designed it to work with my rear cargo panels pretty seamless, but they should work fine with oem stuff too. i plan to make all the hole "punch out" style in case people dont have the cubby opions. my TEQ Lady Leg decals were drawn up by a tattoo artist of mine, Paula Hathaway. i commissioned her to draw me a new just for fun pin up girl with a broken birfield shaft, she is aptly named Birfield Betty. i ordered 150 mat finish 4' round decals of her, when they come in ill post here on yotatech send several out to member that ask at no charge.

Beautiful work! I like using the trim screws; no special tricks needed, never break when you remove and re-install them and easy to find replacement.

I had those type of panels on the Suzuki Samurai I restored. They worked great.

Great work! Glad to see someone coming up with a solution for interior peices on these trucks. Do you have a link for Birfield Bettys OnlyFans page? Asking for a friend!

after several PMs here, and i realize they go a while unread sorry guys, if anyone has questions about panels please email me directly at Keypanels@gmail.com . im trying to get a small web page up to make it easier on me and anyone ordering. most of them are made to order, i dont keep too many things on hand. for 1st gen 84-89 4runners i currently have a design for manual option doors, mid passenger, cargo deck, and tailgate covers. evereything is very close to oem design. nothing requires modification to the vehicle. i altered the mid panels to take a modern toyota style push retainer. tailgates come with new metric trim hardware but not grommets, although i keep grommets on hand if you need them (genuine toyota) and have a weatherstrip backing for a tight seal. mid panels come with hardware also. cargos and doors do not come with retainers. pricing is (as sets not singles) doors-155 mids-195 cargo-195 TG-85.

So will you make a freaking console lid that can be wrapped in leather or vinyl...
please!!!!

You could make the little cargo doors and use turning locks with or without keys to close them, not worry about those weak OEM plastic parts anymore.

sorry bud, Keypanels is kind of gone for now. i moved a few states away to start a new career and my life does not offer the same time i had for the side hustle. im working on a few things at the moment though, trying to get a local cnc guy to repop my panels to save me some time, and im working on a drop in rear tailgate storage kit, along with repop vertigo seat skins. these have been on my side project list for a while however and i do not have an eta on finished product.

Just to throw my .02 in, I would be very interested in your rear tailgate storage solution. I have a soft top and guts of my rear tailgate are gone, been wanting to use it for storage.

this is what i am running also. basically, working on a marine ABS that fastens to the tailgate body and has a seperate drop in "cubby". a few issues so far, even after gutting the tailgate you have to retain the mechanism for the outside handle to drop the tailgate. anyways, im messing with it.

coryc85 10-28-2022 09:26 AM

Not that you need ideas from me, but I took everything out of my tailgate and then I made some little u-shaped brackets that you can see here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52389978

I used a fairly thick tent stake as the pusher rod, it connects to the tailgate handle (the inside handle on a 4Runner) and when you lift the handle the metal rod pushes down on a long flat bar of steel. The bar of steel pulls the cable pulls to release each side of the tailgate. The u-shaped brackets hold the collars on the cable pulls.
