It just died
1993 truck v6 auto. Driving down the road and it died. Tried to restart and it just turns over.(no wiered noises) Checked for fuel by opening line and it was pressurized. Took off dizzy cap and turned the key and the rotor does not turn.....
The truck has about 480,000 miles on it and about 85,000 on the engine. What is next??? Anyone know what to check for next? I am on the way back to Iowa to pick it up. Dwight |

timing is my guess as well. lucky for you, 3vze is a non interference motor, no damage, just temperary downtime.
|
Same as dem guys say. Your timing belt is broken, or your cam has a problem. Tear it down and figure out whats going on.
|
Thanks guys. I can do a timing belt without pulling the motor. I didn't know the dizzy was driven of the timing belt, but I will look there after I spend the next 6 hrs going to get it.

You guys were right... broken timing belt. I pulled the cover and it was torn and then broke.
It looks like I am going to have to remove the oil pump and harmonic ballancer as well. Is there gasket for the pump or do I use Toyota gray rtv? |

yeah it should just be the crank pulley and the cover then the adjuster and you should be all ready for the new belt i thinky
|
oil pump ??? its a water pump if you do a timing belt do i water pump the first one i did i didn't and it ran great than the pump went and tore the new belt apart so don't forget
|
Sorry.... I ment the water pump.Oil pump slides over the crank. I only have about 80,000 miles on the water pump but they are cheap and I don't want to do this again soon.

It is done and running again. Things to remember for the next time...
1. You don't have to remove any of the accesories, ie alt, power steering pump or ac. 2. After you line up all the marks and install the belt don't expect the lines on the marks after you turn the motor. 3. Put sealer on top radiator hose around the studs as well. One of them goes into the water kneck. 4. Back fill the block with antifreeze thru top radiator hose. 5. Put on all new belts. 6. Remove spark plugs before starting the belt install. Makes it much easier to turn the motor over by hand. This has been a fairly easy job. One that most people can do with minimal skills. Thanks guys for all yous assistance. Dwight |
