whitetaco02 07-24-2007 04:40 PM

how did you go about "spraying" it? looks great!

highway 07-24-2007 04:45 PM

whitetaco02, I actually sealed around my carport with some blue tarps and I painted it there. I used dupont basecoat/clearcoat.

very nice, great job

Jay351 07-24-2007 05:25 PM

Damn!

Want to do mine?
You should do a write up with the steps and products used!
My truck is overdue for paint and I would like to do it myself if possible.

looks great...

tell me you didn't mask the handles and windows though

highway 07-24-2007 06:38 PM

yeah i did mask the handles and windows. I had a black mustang once and did the window trim same black as the car, but this time around i wanted to see how well the satin trim looked. i can always shoot the trim later on. I'm not a real big fan of the dupont but i had some left over and all i had to buy was some activator for $46. picked up quite a bit of dust so the buffing is a must :( I think maybe this weekend i may paint some silver stripes on the sides.

Jay if you are gonna paint it yourself, i tell ya a while back i bought a Astro Evo 4014 spray gun and it is lvlp instead of hvlp and since you only need 16psi going into the gun you get less overspray and it uses less paint than the hvlp too

I was going to use spray cans I dont have a compresser or anything.
I wonder if I could get anything close to that?
I have spray painted a few things but at certain angles you can see stripes and stuff where more paint has hit the metal :(

highway 07-26-2007 03:20 PM

Great job. I considered doing my own that way until I ran across this:

I know it's been posted before, but just for giggles, give it a read through.

Scofco 07-26-2007 05:37 PM

Wow, very nice.
I had to read the year of the truck three times to make sure it didn't say '98 Tacoma.
