Engine Swaps????
 

Ok, i did a post on the 22rte swap last week and got some good info.....thanks!!!

My new question is, what do you all thing would be the best swap for a toyota that would still be a daily driver but still a good weekend warrior on the trails?????

My best idea was the 22rte, but whats your advice. Keep in mind that i would like to keep it fairly simple and cheap bc im only 18 and about to start college.

The 3.4 V6 (5VZ-E) swap is popular. For that though, it's best to find a 3.0 V6 (3VZE) truck though. Here's a link.

I've personally decided to go with a 1uzfe 4 liter V8 out of a 90's Lexus. I might lose a touch of fuel economy in the process but I am pretty sure that it'll get up Colorado mountain passes better than my current 22RE.

4.3L chevy vortecs are good motors to swap in, i see a lot of those here in town and they are extremely simple to work with. they are afterall just a 350 without the last 2 cylinders, and use all the same components. Id recomend trying to find a PFI or a SEFI one and veer away from the carbureted or TBI ones. The TBI is childishly easy to set up, but its rather gutless compared to bankfire or sequential injection.

the vortec motors get decent gas mileage, not as good as a 22RE or a 5VZ-FE, and not quite as much top end stock as the 5VZ has, but loads and loads of torque, and very durable.

If you can read ewd's, then you can get it done alot cheaper without the ors kit. Welding is also involved if your starting with a 22r truck as the motor mounts on the frame dont line up.
