Diagnose Me!
Brand new to me '95 pickup, 4x4, 5spd., 22RE.
Changed the oil today, level and color looked good. Then, I checked the coolant - brown, brown brown. The level was all the way to the top with a little in the overflow tank. I think it was oil because it had a little rainbow on the top. No smoke or other signs of bad head gasket. Any thoughts? Chris |
Drain it- flush it -and refill it and run it for about a week then see whats up.
|
I drained it, flushed it, refilled it. I'll keep you posted.

have you blown a HG in the past? A friends 94's coolant looked like crap due to not having flushed the radiator after a blown HG... just a thought

It may just be rust junk from never being changed.
|
isn't the color of the stock toyota coolant brown? if so, a little radiator rust with that should account for it.
|
Stock coolant is red.
Milky coolant (like too much cream in your coffee) or milky oil = coolant/oil mixing. This is from either: 1. head gasket 2. timing cover failure (from a failed waterpump, etc) |
My stock coolant is green. Switch to red was later.
What's the best way figure out which problem it might be? Compression test, coolant pressure test, prayer? |
