91 Toyota speedometer problem
My speedometer quit working and I can't find out why. Its a 22re I was driving and it all of a sudden went to 0. So I thought it was the cable, when I got home I unhooked it on both ends and I was surprised to see that if I turn it the other end turns as well so the cable works.
I am stumped any ideals? (EDIT) I think it is either my speedometer or the drive gear. I took the cable back off at the ends and spun it with a drill (on low). It got up to around 30mph. So I believe the cable is not the problem. I pulled the speedometer gear and to be honest it really didn't look that bad a little worn but not bad. |
You're going to have to break this down into steps. You've already done the first two; you've verified the cable isn't broken, and you've verified that spinning the cable will work the speedometer.
So, even though the drive gear looks okay, I think it's time to try it. This shouldn't be too hard; disconnect at the speedo and connect at the transmission. Jack up a rear wheel and turn it by hand. Does the cable turn at the speedometer end? |

Thanks for the report back.
Pictures? Part numbers? Where you bought the replacement, and how much it cost? Inquiring minds want to know. |

Some people just put a picture up and say I got this and don't type the part numbers they used. Some just put up a link without typing in the part numbers they used. Both methods have one major flaw in common. What happens when the picture is moved/deleted or the link is no longer good??? |
