89 runner running horrible
So the other day im driving home when my runner back fires and poped the colecter gasket and the CEL came on... I figured it was due to the exhaust not being read by the O2 sensor.... It began to missfire after the light came on.... exhaust is fixed but there is no muffler it rotted out after the cat... My plugs all look black as if it is rich or burning oil.... what could cause this injectors?

Cold start injector spraying when it shouldn't?
But anyhow... the CEL came on. What code(s) do you have? |
If the O2 sensor was not reading and your truck was running rich, you may have melted the cat, which can cause the backfire and popped gasket. Be sure to check that before you go further.

how do you scan this truck is it obd1 if so wheres the port i looked and couldnt find it.....thanks for the help its appreciated..once i run the codes ill let you know where im at hopefully tommorow

Take a paperclip, unfold it so its straight. Bend it in half. Look under the hood on the passenger side of the engine bay. Locate the "diagnosis" box next to the fuse box. Open the diagnosis box. Put one end of the paperclip in "TE" and the other in "E". Go turn the key to the accessory position "ACC". The CEL will flash. Count the flashes and you will get the code(s). If you don't have a repair manual, post up the code(s) and we will help you :)

and to be technically correct-
if the pop came from the exhaust it's an 'afterfire' if the pop came through the intake it's a 'backfire' so what is(are) the code(s)? |
behind the battery, on the side of the fuse block, is the diagnostic check plug
use the paperclip to short the TE1 and E1 terminals (there's a diagram on the inside of the cover), then turn the igntion switch on. |
