4runner heater blower motor assembly 1987

1987 4runner DLX 22RE AT.. new motor, nice shape
have dead heater blower motor system in Vermont!
mechanic, not a toyota guy more of a Ford man, tried repair no good
no power to blower motor, fuses good,
new motor replaced two year ago, spins and accepts power etc.
replaced resistor unit new.
perhaps a short? Unit just stopped working 2 weeks ago.

any other components need changing?

I suggested doing a Rube Goldberg, wire direct to new single switch just on high speed to get some heat for remaining winter.
would that work?
maybe the fan speed switch is shot? any replacement for such?
any ideas?
thanks
Mcgill

Did you check the relay and fuse behind the cigarette lighter? You can get to it pretty easy by removing the glove box if not.

A bad resistor or motor can out excess load on the switch. You can see in the schematic it's a typical toyota circuit with the switch on the ground side. In all positions the switch activates the relay and depending on the setting routes the current via the resistor.

4crawler has some pretty good tips on the blower motor. Winters here, get that heat fixed!
