22re pictures of wiring and vac lines

I'm getting it all back together but had some questions about routing the wiring harness mostly (87 22re EFI).

I routed it through the 'tunnel' of the intake runners but can't tell if the half of the harness that goes down toward the transmission should go down through the middle of the runners or just out the back of the tunnel then down...?

also, there are two connectors the could hook to the sensor that's just above the oil filter on the block, I'm guessing its a knock sensor? there is a yellow, round connector and a kind of opache, milky white one. both fit. the sensor is opach white so I'd guess it would be like colors together..but there isn't another yellow sensor?

in short, any close up pics would help.

The knock sensor connector will have a shielded (i.e. fatter) wire connected to it.

Here are a few pics I took of my truck before I Changed motors. They might be helpful.

PM me if I can help any more.

very helpful. thanks.

looks like the remainder of the wires do go down. nothing over the fuel rail.

one more odd thing, I've got a green round connector about as big around as a quarter that has a really long wire connected to it....and it seems like its (almost) long enough to reach all the way over to the drivers fender well where it actually matches another green connector their (looks like its coming from the voltage reg or something that looks like one?....but I never see this on another truck or picture? and the wire covering is too clean to have been draped across there? I'll try to snap a picture.

I think that does run across the engine bay over the valve cover, and goes to you coil/ignitor. The wire is in the pics, but it looks like a vaccum line on the valve cover.

that would make sense.

I'll snap some pictures tonight.

here's the pics...

one is of the ignitor(?) lead draped across the top of the valve cover....hopefully that is correct.

the other picture shows two connections that I'm not sure of (among many;^) the yellow arrow is a hose that I think goes to one of the two connections on the power steering (a small canister with two hose fittings on top)? not sure which one of the two or if it matters....

the red arrow is to the other sensor that fits the same plug as the knock sensor. both plugs are shown in the third photo... (I added the white wire after the plug broke off the original...)

any ideas where the yellow and red connect to?

Heres a link to another similar thread I posted on with alot of pics:

Your red arrow appears to be pointing at the temp sensor (your pic is small and my eyes ain't what they used to be lol ) I'll try to snap a pic of mine so you can see what the connector looks like.

those links are helpful... I'll print out those pics in color and it should help.

here's the red arrow picture a little larger.

Also, in the new picture, am I to assume this white plug doesn't connect to anything? I don't have anything left that would fit it and it looks like there is dirt and mud in it like it hasn't been hooked up before?

BLKNBLU 02-06-2007 07:40 AM

The empty plug you have hanging sure looks alot like the plug to the temp sensor in my pic from post #10. It threads up through the intake mani and connects to the thermostat housing.

BLKNBLU 02-06-2007 07:42 AM

Sorry I just noticed the white arrow in your second pic. That one does have some empty spots on it. At least mine did when I did my head gasket.

4runnerD 02-06-2007 07:48 AM

you had me going on that one.... just when I thought I had the temp sensor figured out:con:

Still, I think the white opaque plug with the white wire in your second pic is the temp wire. Your just going to have empty spots on the white plug with the arrow pointing at it.

4runnerD 02-06-2007 09:33 AM

I agree.

Looking at some other in-process build pictures that I have, it looks like the two similar sized sensors are color matched. the one near the oil filter is yellow and the more clear/milky one (water temp) has a same colored plug and sensor....

maybe the white ones are there for auto trans models or some other option I don't have?

4runnerD 02-07-2007 06:10 AM

hopefully getting to the end of my questions....

but, how many connections are there on the starter? I have the heavy main power wire that bolts to the stud/nut, then a small square clip that has a mate, then a smaller 'blade' type clip on the engine block side of the starter that I don't seem to have a match for?

4Crawler 02-07-2007 08:15 AM

Should be two physical connections, the heavy power cable to the stud and a small control wire to the solenoid. A third connection is to ground via the bolts that hold the starter to the bellhousing.

4runnerD 02-07-2007 10:27 AM

hmmm.....like a pigtail from the third clip to the bolt?

might explain some of the extra parts I have?
