1994
It’s been a while, but I’m baaack.
got a killer deal on a 1994 toyota pickup 4x4 22re. its all stock and factory, from original owner. i got it, basically stole it, bc 1) he was running warm and a water pump and thermostat didnt fix it. 2) there is no coolant on the floorboard or smell of it 3) has a slight oil leak on the timing set cover, which isn’t a big deal bc I’m gonna redo the timing chain.. aside from someone putting in a backwards thermostat, and no mixing of coolant and oil, on these 22re motors what would cause a running hot symptom. Bad radiator ? also, future plans are a 2” bj spacer lift, 33x10.50 on 15x8 black steelies. It’s gonna be a fun truck, getting a new super duty soon maybe this will keep me from molesting that truck for a while. |
what no pics?
oh, I mean, welcome back! |
I’m picking it uo the 17. My good buddy is a motor head and it’s his neighbor.

I've had radiators plug up over they years and I ALWAYS flushed my coolant as required and used distilled water. The castings still shed particles and over time plug the tubes. Looking inside the cap ,the tubes may "look" clean but they tend to plug down inside. I always have my copper/brass radiators rodded out whenever I do major work on the engine.
Make sure you have a fan shroud and a working fan clutch. The copper brass radiators are expensive. I have friends that just went with the cheap aluminum radiators without any trouble. Good luck with your new truck! |
I will second the fan clutch, typically it should WHIIIIIIIRRRRRRRR when it’s working, radiator cap as dumb as it sounds caused me havoc in my old Subaru, cheap thermostat not opening all the way, I know members prefer an OEM T stat.
Also on the radiator, as aztoyman said the good ones are covered in gold and the cheap ones are cheap BUT I have learned my lesson with the 100ish dollar ones……I would try to find something middle of the road if it needs replacement. CSF radiators seem to be a good middle of the road replacement and I believe do not use the plastic/aluminum combo. No personal experience with the brand but there are some threads on the subject. Does the heater work good?? Anyway lets see some pics:) |
I’ve only got the one my buddy sent me. I’ve been looking for another toyota so it was bought sight unseen hahaha.
