New Runner...YIPPEE

So tonight I drove up to Fort Collins to pick up my new 1985 4runner. It is in good shape for what it is, a 1985 4runner. There isn't very much rust, only 1 big spot.

A few things I did notice on the 1.5 hour drive is that the alignment needs to be looked at and there is an exhaust leak that needs to be addressed.

It is an automatic, which I prefer. I had a manual and I think that I will like the auto better.

My plans for this rig are pretty standard. I want a 5'' lift and 35x1250x15 MTR's. Rock protection, winches and the like. 5.29 gears and ARB lockers, with OBA.

Tomorrow I am going to get a set of 32x1150x15 All Terrains and some rock crawler wheels to get me by until the winter. My plan is to have all my parts here by the time that winter rolls around so that I can get started.

I will get pictures tomorrow when I get home from work.

Very Nice! I like the rattle can olive drab paint job!! Too bad the PO painted right over the badges on the back!

That last picture too looks like the 'boss' is going through it on her inspection run!! LOL

Nice find! What are the future mods?

For now a 2'' lift with some 2'' over shackles and 33x1250x15 BFG Mud Terrains. Gonna wheel it all summer and then put it in the garage for a make over...5'' lift, 35x1250x15 Mud Terrains, sliders, winch, arb lockers, 5.29 gears, OBA...:rockin:

Probably going to go with PowerTank, heard lots of good things about them. I will keep ya'll posted. I'll get pics of the lift and new wheels and tires.

Took her out today and took a few poser shots until I can get her into a little better shape to go wheelin...While I was out I found a radiator leak when it is tilted towards the driver's side. I think it needs new hoses.

This is a different 4runner. I bought this one from a guy outside of Fort Collins, Co.

I had an 85 that I rattle canned black, but I had to sell that on and I finally got to buy another one.

Gotta love Stocker poser shots!! Seeing your photo gallery, I wanted to share my own poser shots to see if your Runner thought mine was pretty! I got a female 4 Runner. If you got a male 4 Runner, maybe we could introduce them and perhaps end up with little Runners and split the litter!! :hillbill:

I wish it were that simple...getting a new runner. I looked and looked and waited a year before I bought another 4runner.

Just thought about this too, I am going to invest in toyotafiberglass.com to get rid of all of the rust.

Honestly I didn't see any cancer in the pictures you posted. Where abouts is it?

On topic of Corey @ toyotafiberglass.com - I can't sing enough great praise about him! He is a stand up guy, great customer service (before, during and after your order!) and the quality of his work is unmatched! I highly recommend him and feel his prices are fair for the product offered!

This is the major area of the rust, there is some that starts under the top and moves down the rear quarter panels...

I have given serious consideratio nto bobbing the bed to the rear spring hangers but I do not know if I want to alter the look to the Toyota that much. I did fall in love with this truck for it's looks first, only then did I learn about it's off road prowess.

Add Longfields to that list.

Nice 4Runner! Hopefully I'll meet up with you Denver guys on the trails someday :bigok:

Hayes 04-05-2007 01:35 PM

Longfields are on the list when one breaks. I work with a guy that has a a heavily modified 84 pickup and he has never had ANY problems with the birfields. I am hoping to have that good of luck. I am also considering the D44 cv conversion.
