What year? Engine?

Looking through wiring diagrams, you should have two wires coming off ignitor one black(ground) and one black with red stripe(positive). The only white wire I see runs from the pickup coil in distributor to ignitor.

Thank you sir but i figured it out lol. I went a bout a 6 dollar test light and hooked it up. Turns out that red line in the white wire over the last 27 years has turned it pink! haha. Just gave her new high end wires, plugs, and a performance accell coil, UNREAL it just gave me no joke 30 more hp, and cured my high idle. Last owner didnt take care of her she was chock full of junk with bad fluids and plugs nearly 5 years old.

30 more HP Really?

id say its the least amount i gained. Put it like this, before the ignition top speed was bout 70 with 33's. Now i can rip past 80 easy. And i have about a 150 foot incline that stretches over 500 feet on the way to me house. In fourth gear before new ignition i lost speed and almost had to downshift. Now im GAINING speed on the same hill!

Wow that's awesome man! I'm going to pick one up soon and hopefully I get the same results, thanks for the tip

which accel coil did you use?

Dale Rosales 12-04-2012 07:18 PM

Ok so I went out a bit ago after chatting here and check the status of my factory coil. and as it turns out it's worn out, the primary resistance was on the low side of factory spec 0.8 ohms and the secondary resistance was 9.2 k ohms below Factory spec of 10.7-14.5 k ohms so this will help my little yoda! Good luck with your truck buddy

Dale Rosales glad you caught the problem that coil should do wonders...get some promo wires n a good distributor cap n rotor with brass contacts while your at it. I promise it'll do wonders! Toasty Josh ill let u know when I take a look after work.

From ojM3
accel coil called "super stack" coil #61400. I went to autozone n this was what the computer calls for as an aftermarket upgrade.

Dale Rosales 12-12-2012 12:12 AM

Ojm3 I just picked up that coil and installed it. I like it but the coil gets really hot is yours getting hot to? Or does anyone know if this is normal??? I have a 84 early 22R

ojm3 12-12-2012 04:55 AM

Dale Rosales. My coil runs cool. I also replaced the cap and rotor, and wires with newer ones that have all brass contacts. It is absolutely essential that you keep all of your wires from contacting each other and metal with a coil that powerful and new parts you definitely will arc off which can cause your coil to run hot
