questions on a 32/36 weber install

I am installing a webber i stole off ebay, it came with the one piece alum adapter. I pulled the POS aisin carb off my 83 and there is a phenolic spacer under there. Is it best to leave that? Has any one gone to the trouble of pulling the manifold and cutting out the divider between the venturies? Probably not worth the trouble?:dunno:

skooterbumm 11-11-2009 02:36 PM

thanks, i figured it out myself

skooterbumm 11-12-2009 02:49 PM

There is something to be said for the simplicity of the Weber. I dont doubt that the aisin carb is a good one, i just dont have the energy to get it re-adjusted after rebuilding.

maistroyoda 11-12-2009 02:56 PM

The Aisin is good but you really need to be careful when rebuilding cuz many times it just doesn't come out the same or as good. I think the weber is great!

skooterbumm 11-12-2009 04:12 PM

I have 2 aisin carbs for sale if anyone is intrested

cgeorge 11-17-2009 03:54 AM

how did your install go and how does it run?

skooterbumm 11-17-2009 09:02 AM

I am still working on it. I have to clean and kit the carb. Maybe have it running this weekend.

skooterbumm 11-30-2009 09:00 AM

Weber carb is insatlled and she runs like a top! Still have a little final assembly of the linkage, but should be ready to drive very soon.

seanmearse 11-30-2009 09:45 AM

Waiting on UPS to deliver my weber today. Is there any issues you ran into, or anything "off" so to speak?

skooterbumm 11-30-2009 10:35 AM

no everything went very easy. I am just putting together the bolts and spacers, all i bought was the carb, adapter and air filter. But made a huge diffrence in throttle responce.

seanmearse 11-30-2009 10:40 AM

I ordered the WHOLE kit. Couldnt resist the price. UPS needs to get here before work!!! Im soooooo anxious its not even funny!!!

skooterbumm 11-30-2009 11:29 AM

well i spent a total so far of 150. and got 2 a/c assemblies out of the deal. But i also mechanic for a living.

seanmearse 11-30-2009 04:58 PM

Nice. I've only been wrenching for around 8-9 years now, 3 in the military and the rest on all my friends cars, not to mention countless battery installs through the current job for the last three years, ugh.

seanmearse 12-02-2009 10:34 AM

Okay, i followed the tuning directions to a T. It wants to idle at 2 grand! Did yours do this without the regulator?

camo31_10.50 12-02-2009 10:43 AM

i've heard that whenever you get a weber carb you almost have to run a regulator and it needs to be at about 3-4psi right??

i kinda wanna get one just because...but i think it's easier to just fix my problem right now...(no i still haven't figured it out Cgeorge LOL) then adjust that dude and be good

skooterbumm 12-02-2009 11:41 AM

I just adjusted mine till it ran like i wanted, i have no reg and it idles around 900. im not sure what press the stock pump puts out. but over pressure would cause flooding not high idle

seanmearse 12-02-2009 03:00 PM

well, adjusting the idle screw makes no difference at all. Still runs the same. if you rev it, it will drop to 1000 wich is fine, but then goes slowly back up to 2000. Im seriously 1 step from driving it into a wall.

skooterbumm 12-02-2009 04:09 PM

the throttle stop screw is very sensitive, just back it out then adj the idle air screw again, then throttle stop.... till ya get it set. It may take a time or ten to get set. Its not as easy as the paper says, but not hard either. just keep playin with it

seanmearse 12-02-2009 08:52 PM

well, she started idling at the proper rpm, and now dies whenever you depress the clutch (let her idle). im thinking vacuum leak, but i will check in the morning.

camo31_10.50 12-02-2009 08:59 PM

carb problems piss me off too dude...don't ever give up though...it's most likely something very simple LOL

maistroyoda 12-02-2009 10:54 PM

Weber does recommend installing a regulator. Maybe the stock pressure is too high for the Weber. I bought the regulator at O Reileys for $30. Install took less than 5 minutes.

seanmearse 12-03-2009 08:08 AM

I put a regulator on her yesterday on my lunch, and thats when it started the whole dying thing. its at 3 psi. Im going out to tinker as soon as i finish my coffee, ill let you guys know what transpires.

maistroyoda 12-03-2009 12:05 PM

Have you done the fuel pump, fuel filter?

seanmearse 12-03-2009 03:16 PM

Did the fuel pump like 2 months ago. Fuel filter a week ago.

seanmearse 12-03-2009 03:17 PM

also, I replaced all the fuel lines on the truck.

seanmearse 12-03-2009 03:20 PM

We pulled the carb cause it definately had a leak on the passenger side manifold to adapter. Got it back together, ran a little better, sprayed a little starting fluid on the intake manifold to head. rpms jump way up. got the new gasket, have my buddy putting it on at his shop right now.

camo31_10.50 12-03-2009 03:57 PM

i wish mine was that simple LOL

seanmearse 12-03-2009 04:17 PM

Whats yours doing?

camo31_10.50 12-03-2009 04:18 PM

my idle cut solenoid wiring is causing problems LOL..im gonna just run 2 new wires to it wired directly into the ignition..that should fix it :)

seanmearse 12-03-2009 04:21 PM

its a weber?

camo31_10.50 12-03-2009 05:03 PM

nahhhh i got the Stock Carburetor on there LOL

maistroyoda 12-03-2009 07:22 PM

Did that fix your problem?

seanmearse 12-04-2009 08:09 AM

My issue, or camo's? Mines still at his shop. pick it up this morning we will see.

Yours, keep us posted. Interested to hear if that did it

seanmearse 12-04-2009 02:51 PM

So, he called me and said to get over to his shop immediately. I went, he said to look at the flange where the manifold bolts up to the head, and then, look at the head. The manifold doesnt have the same bolt quantity as the head. Basically, the rear of the manifold has one top and one bottom bolt to seal it. There is no broken ears, or un-drilled holes in the manifold. They just arent there. Im going to search around and see if i can find the two different 22r manifolds and determine what i have, and what i need.

Weber

I did an install about a year ago, I bought an Offy intake and a NWOR header to go with it. Had to to some mods to the adapter plate(good thing a have a milling machine). As far as tuning it takes one or ten times and I'm still not liking the idle, seems a little rich still. I did the regulator install and it really helped, have it set at 4psi because at 3psi I can run it out of fuel. It runs good offroad though and I get about 10-12mpg I'd guess. I am running a auto with 4.88's and 35's. I was disgusted with it at first but now I'm OK with it.

skooterbumm 01-03-2010 11:06 AM

what offy manifold did you use? was it worth the money? I have one on my 81 with the 2 piece adapter. The adapter leaks between the 2 plates. I have had it apart 3 or 4 times and it always comes back. I decided to put the taller one piece adapter on. I will do that this week. I have never been able to get the idle like i want either, i felt like it was due to the leak at the carb adapter.... maybe not

1990yota-pickup 01-19-2010 02:30 PM

did you ever fix the leak..?

skooterbumm 01-24-2010 09:01 AM

Yes i did! I took that 2 piece adapter off and installed the 1 piece i bought from Summit Racing. Its taller but les places for leaks.

xxxtreme22r 01-24-2010 09:18 AM

I've got my 32/36 coming from Webercarbsdirect which looks to be on Monday, just to make sure in case I have problems with my adapter this is the one you ordered? And by the looks of one of the gaskets it has the fitting for the pcv line?
