Very nice pics Ric, love your rig! That's what's so cool about CO, you really can't get hung up on just one outdoor activity out there with the terrrain and weather.

I don't know when the last time you were on the trail but a stock truck can't make it without some body damage. Regardless of the line you pic. It's gotten a lot worse in some places yet some places that were a challenge earlier are now a cakewalk. It's like it's become a whole new trail over the past couple months.

next time you guys head up there let me know. that area is literally in my backyard. actually its out the front and across town from me. let me know. I could use some people to wheel with.

Eagle Rock Conditions in 2006
 

With so little snow this year in the Pikes Peak region, I wonder if anyone has run Eagle Rock this winter? If so, how difficult would you rate the condition of the trail? Could stock with rear lockers do it? Would chains help or hurt?

The last time that I was out there, after the first snow, it as icy and looked kinda hazardous. I haven't even driven it dry. But, I'll bet that you don't want to go alone, in case you get stuck. This is why I haven't gone back since around October. I drove Trail 381 up there and tore up a U-joint. That trail was rated an 8 and made me a little nervous in my stock 94 with 31's. I'm weary of getting back on those mountain roads without some mods and a buddy with a winch or at least a tow strap. But, the snow has to be slick, and only in the bad spots, too. Now I have chains and a few mods on the way in the mail. Maybe I'll try it soon. My snowboard trip is Sunday, so this weekend's out, Sunday I'm at Monarch. Wish me luck, hitch a lift if you wanna!

BigWavePaul, thanks for your interest. My post (RockyMtRunner) about "so little snow" was actually one year ago, Jan of 2006. Last winter, I wheeled the lower part of #381 and all of #379 all winter long because there was so little deep snow, just ice. Eagle Rock looked doable last winter, and in fact some wheelers were successful. But what a difference a year makes. No water rationing this summer! I tried #379 after that first storm in Dec, 2006, and only got a little way above the junction with Forrester's Trail, before the deep drifts had stopped everything except one set of ATV tracks. I tried #379 again last Friday, Jan 19, 2007. I put chains on all four wheels and had no trouble following some previous tracks up to the creek crossing, but I turned around there after I got out for an up-close look at the thick ice shelves on each bank and decided a solo wheeler ought not try it at 4:00 PM, chains or no chains. If it had been 10:00 AM, I might have stuck my toes in the water and backed out to test traction on the near shelf before deciding whether to go for it all or not. When I passed #381, the snow looked deep and there were no new tracks since the last storm. Sorry about your U joint.

i have been up this trail many of times in the two years i have owned my truck both dry, and raining hard as hell, even with a nice couple iches of snow this year.
My yota it is all stock except a winch and front and rear bumpers and 31" muds. no lockers no lift, i have never been strapped, or had to use my winch. it is in my back yard pratically 15 min away and no exactly what lines to chose. Like byron4 said he saw it with his own two eyes, and so did sonofmayhem. I have also done ocg here in colorado with out straps winch ect. all except wahle rock. I am not trying to sound conceded or anything, but i know my trucks limitations, and have taken it there with out body damage. And i don't wheel the ÅÅÅÅ out of my truck in the process.:soap:

talk about raising the dead, lol, that was a fun trail, gonna have to hit that again..

i wanna try next sunday my truck should be ready, and i may be locked geared and armored:D
