2nd Annual NorCal Off Road Expedition

Well another year has came and went.
With little carnage and an abundance of fun on and off the trail I can safely say this was a great year. Thanks to everyone that was able to make it. We took a slightly different route from last year traveling up Hogsback out of Red Bluff and then down into Antelope Creek for the first night of camping. Fridays trip proved to be the most demanding of the hole trip with steep drops and off camber lava caps. It was a great day, Unfortunately I was more tuned to the road than the camera. here are some from camp though

im still uploading video to youtube, ill get my stuff up soon

John101477 06-14-2010 04:41 AM

yeah I am trying to get my stuff to you tube as well. but I have to sub in audio because i seem to cuss a lot.

So day 2 started out slow and progressed slower. Snowwhites rig thought it should still be winter and decided it hated summer. Over heating plagued the morning so we kept having to find shade to rest under.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...0/_DSC0013.jpg
Unfortunatley about half way up the Ishi Road SnowWhite decided he had had enough and was going to limp it out one of the easier trails. Dark Fairytales being the good bro followed him out and even dragged his but up some of the hills on the other side. luckily they found a way to keep his over heating to a minimum. and met us at our next nights camp.
ChrisMcdowel25 and I continued up into the peligreen. It was a lot of fun and Chris was having fun testing his new KM2's, which I have to say I am a bit impressed with. all the lava cap and spinning is torture on most tires but these KM2's lost no rubber. it was a great second half of the day and we had a blast.

John101477 06-14-2010 11:12 AM

next year we need to merge all of our video into 1 or 2 long videos.

John101477 06-14-2010 02:57 PM

Sunday went by pretty fast with the exception of Snow's rig overheating. As you can see from the video above, we found a little mud to play in and it was deep and thick but Fairy and Chris were able to spread it out a little. We hit some areas that were being logged so the road in that area was gravel and more like rally racing before diving into Deer Creek Canyon where we met some rocky resistance. Topping out on Campbell Ridge we were able to move faster if we could avoid pot holes. all in all I know I had a blast and can not wait till next year. We plan to get a little more extreme so save the dates now. Memorial Weekend 2011

I liked your editing for you vid. john. your choice of music was fitting. Dirt road, lol. I dont know when moon will get her pics up.

chrismcdowell25 06-14-2010 09:40 PM

I am converting mine right now. My nice computer died a few weeks ago and my laptop is just barely chugging along. I should have them up tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Nothing too fancy though I am afraid just a bit of the same.

space-junk 06-14-2010 11:08 PM

sorry i missed it guys... :(

i had to work for the past 8 days straight... and now im getting ready for my trip to Idaho in 2 days... :(

John101477 06-15-2010 08:21 AM

That sucks Troy. you might as well put in for 3 days off now for Squaw in July. If they can't give ya those days you might as well call in sick. You definitely missed out this trip. the hogsback/ Lower slab road is pretty gnarly. I am trying to find more areas like that in the vicinity for next year to incorporate for a full 3 day expedition.

dark_fairytales 06-15-2010 09:34 AM

ya that little road was awesome. we had so much fun doing it we did not get any pics of it.

one thing to think about next time my be to travel less per day and get more pics and vid.

chrismcdowell25 06-15-2010 07:05 PM

I am a bit short on computing power so I haven't been able to do much with these pictures. They are here...

http://chrismcdowell.net/Misc/YotaTech/NORE2.zip

They are in a zip file and it's pretty big at about 350MB. I'll post up a few of my favorites if you don't feel like sorting through such a large file.

I think you just like wheel lifts and your truck. LOL

John101477 06-15-2010 09:33 PM

nah I like your truck to, although mine was sexier being topless :D
That wheel lift is pretty tight though. great timing. I did not catch anything near that in video.

I really like those chris. the one in the mirror is unique and framed well. I totally dig the action shots. You have gotten some of the best pics i have seen of my truck to date.

I think you get better results sometimes in pictures. It captures it a bit better. While if it is in video it can be up and down and done with. When it's frozen up there it just looks that much cooler and makes it more dramatic.

John101477 06-15-2010 09:44 PM

absolutely. i am also not a videographer lol. if I really wanted to or had thought of it I could slow the frame down for a little more dramatic effect.

chrismcdowell25 06-15-2010 09:44 PM

Thanks Fairy, Glad ya like them.

We need your brother running around next time as the designated media jockey. That way we can all focus on doing some cool shi it(it edited out the other).

I am not a huge video fan. I like checking them out when something cool is going on but I prefer to do photos. They seem to be more lasting. If my camera did video I am sure I would have taken some though. Ha

ya it gives the time to keep moving. That is what shaggy prefers anyway, filming that is. He needs money at the moment so time off to film is not possible.

MoonChild 06-16-2010 03:50 PM

OKAY! OKAY! Here they are...

Sorry it took me so long to get these pics up guys. I've been a bit busy. (work and all you know...)
Chris if you want that vid that I took of you in the mud let me know, but I thought since John put his vid of you on here already it wasn't necessary? let me know ok?

He might have enjoyed the mud a bit more if he rolled up his window before hitting the gas. LOL I just drove through a car wash and it came off pretty good. Some on the frame still but nothing big.

Your call on the video. if it's pretty epic send it on over but if it's pretty much the same thing don't worry about it.

MoonChild 06-16-2010 11:50 PM

k :) it's pretty small anyways. the vid i mean

twitchee2 06-28-2010 08:16 PM

awesome picks. gotta an gps routes for that?? i got to chico st and we are trying to set up a over nighter for a weekend once school starts back up. looks like a great place to go.

Here is the link to the planning portion.

A few words of advise on the trail though. The Local DFG keeps a sharp look out on the area so the tread lightly ideals are very important. If you need more info let me know.

RMA 06-28-2010 09:48 PM

Looks like you guys had some fun .. I wish i could have made it , had to take an early vacation that week.

Chris's 4runner did pretty good in that mud..

Kieth didnt you just replace your rear axle seals ? That mud looked pretty thick and gooey, i dont know that i would have gone thru that s***..

i know ive missed both trips but hopefully next time i can make it ...

John101477 06-29-2010 09:15 AM

Well we are going to start the process a little sooner next year. Already planning it for memorial weekend. Since it is on a long weekend that many spend with their loved ones i would like to make it family friendly although with some areas being rough road some may not enjoy it, we sure did.
