depends what you paid for it. if it was cheap to get into and you do the work yourself, yes it is worth fixing. if it wasn't cheap to get into, then you sell it and take a bath. so fixing it is the only option.

use the search function here and do your homework on replacing those head gaskets. you can get a step by step procedure going if you print it out. should be easy. just label everything as you are taking it apart and take pics-lotsa pics.

    good luck

I am new as well to this forum, I saw something about rebuilding a blown engine...I have a 95 SR5 4runner with a blown head and something is wrong with the trany. I am low on money but could use all the help i can get. my goal is to fix the engine and trany and sell for a 4x4 after winter season. Is it even worth fixing?

To GVN2FLY, go ahead and pick my brain, no problem. I have the V6 with the auto transmission and do not like it. Nothing wrong with the trans, just do not like the gearing in it. I have accumulated many parts for my 4Runner (not all are installed) including 1.5" upper ball joint spacers, 1" differential drop spacers (both from 4Crawler, Roger Browns site), 5 speed transmission, bellhousing, master and slave cylinders with hard and soft clutch lines, clutch pedals, sliders, 8000 lb. Warn Belle View winch, rear M.C. bumper, replacement rear leaf springs and shocks.
I "lifted" the back by replacing the leafs, but not with lift leaf springs. They were replacements and when the rear sags terribly, anything that provides normal spacing seems like a lift. My results were dramatic, 3.5" up in the back. Any higher and you run the risk of having auto trans linkage misalignment and have to buy adjustment brackets. I went to JCWhitney for them. They are too stiff, not enough flex.
    P.M. me.

Hey I have been checking out your rig, looks pretty good. I have the same model, 88 V6. Wondering I could pick your brain a bit. Did you ever move forward on the BJ lift, what do you think of it? Did you add anything to the back for lift when you did it? Thanks. Im looking to get some more trail flex but not kill my wallet. I have an 88 before with a Superlift and 35's. Had a lot of trouble with CV popping out.

Yes, I still have the Kragen shackles on my 4 Runner. I wonder if they are the source of some of my rear suspension stiffness.

I have been up that 3 times. Want to get a run together?
Sorry I haven't been reading this section very often.
