I finally got around to replacing my brake cable using your post. As I expected, it was quite helpful. In fact, the single tip about advancing the lever was worth reading your post.
Besides the complication of my cable end being rusted to the pin in the bellcrank, your post prepared me for everything I needed to know.
I have a couple of comments that might be helpful to others:
- I found it easy to remove the whole asm as you say, but I found it easy to install the cable on the detached lever and snake the cable from inside the cabin to the outside.
- I have the 22RE. With this engine, the two sets of folding cable holders above the transmission are easily accessible from the driver's side of the engine bay.
- I used an aftermarket cable, it fit perfectly and was about 1/3 the price of the Toyota part. Maybe I got lucky, but for something as low-tech as a cable, I took a chance.
Thanks again,
Dan
