Just joined the Toyota family! v.1986 4Runner

I have wanted a 4x4 Toyota truck for a loooonnnnggg time now that we could just have to go beating around and mudding in. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it since we would just be using it for off roading really and nothing else. I finally found one a few weeks ago that was pretty promising.

It is a 1986 Toyota 4Runner that has been converted into a truck. I don't know why they did that but it is a pretty good conversion. It has 150k miles on it and it has a good amount of rust on the bed around the fenders. I have read that is pretty common on these trucks and we don't really care so it didn't matter to me. He wanted $2k for it, and I talked him down to $1300 for it. Here in Texas these things are in high demand for people's ranches and someone would have paid $2k for it so I am glad he took my offer.

Anyways, the truck runs and drives great. Today we found something wrong with it though. The car goes through coolant and you need to refill it like once a week. So I pulled out a spark plug today because it wasn't cranking over. Well when I opened it up I found that one of the cylinders was full of coolant. So this weekend I am probably going to replace the head gasket and hope that is the only thing wrong. I am thinking it might be the head that is cracked though. What do you guys think? Anyone have a good head laying around or is there a way I can test it?

We are also doing a bit of body work on it. We have never done body work before but we are just filling everything up with bondo, including the rust. We know that's not what you are supposed to do but whatever, this is just a beat around truck. We are going to be painting it that flat red primer and then the line separating the top and bottom of the truck will be black. So it is going to be a two-tone colored truck. It should look alright for a beater.
