Hey folks. Thanks for having me here - Some fresh meat for yalll!
Long story short is I have an 88' 22RE 4Runnner with a old Toyota truck manual transmission .. The history is years ago there was screwdriver break in to the ignition cylinder- I bought the truck like this. The starting has been hit and miss (Had to jump start it when just click, or shake the key around). Fast forward to today I am now having some electrical starting problems since my transmission swap and the truck been sitting for a year.. Looking to convert all my ignition wiring to a new rocker panel I just made. Or even better just find and fix the issue. Read on if interested!
Troubleshooting:
Starter is GOOD
Battery is GOOD
Engine ground is GOOD
(These are facts)
Go to turn key into ACC - GOOD (All Lights come on, all accessories work)
Go to turn key into on - NO CHANGE
Go to turn key to start - FUEL PUMP ENGAGES
Now here is another scenario with the clutch cancel switch button on the dashboard engaged:
Go to turn key into ACC - GOOD
Go to turn key into on - NO CHANGE
Go to turn key to start - CLICK and all electrical dies then battery MUST be disconnected then reconnected before electrical will come back on
Here is a third scenario with the clutch cancel switch button engaged again (This result seems random)
Go to turn key into ACC - GOOD
Go to turn key into on - NO CHANGE
Go to turn key to start - Starter turns STRONG but no fuel pump engaging. (I could run the engine briefly with some starter fluid down the intake this way)
Anyways W-T-F! Anybody been down this road before? Or have some really good wiring diagrams? I am happy to bypass the ignition and re-wire each circuit straight to my new rocker panel if this solves my problem. I have a decent enough electronics background to
dig into all this - just need some help to get started
Thanks for the interest. Here's a pic of my interior just for fun
- A bro
