Are Automatics supposed to lock with no key?

I had a wobbly automatic shifter in my 1989 22re so I rebuilt it with new bushings. I was hoping new bushings would be a "cure-all" but it's not. The shifter feels great but still will shift out of park without any key. Is there a fix for this?

TIA

I assume you have a 4 Wheel Drive Truck?

I know at least on my 1987 2 Wheel Drive Truck with a column automatic shifter, there is no lock. You can shift to any gear without a key, and that is how it came from the factory.

The 4 Wheel Drive Trucks all have floor shift automatic transmissions, and I thought those had a lock, but I am not entirely sure...

Yeah, 4WD 4Runner with floor shift. It doesn't even feel like it's supposed to lock.

From 1990, there was a shift lock mechanism, documented here: http://www.teamtoyota4x4.org/archivi...2/shiftloc.pdf

I don't know nuthin' 'bout '89s.
