Replacing Wiper Arms 1994 DLX

New to tinkering with vehicles in general, so learning as I go with my 1994 DLX 3.0L (just bought a month ago). I replaced the wiper motor and like a new tinkerer, I forgot to note the original position of the brass arm connecting the motor to the linkage. After I finally got the linkage back into the correct park position, the driver side wiper would drag across and stop at the top of the cycle, or it would drop down below the park position at the end of the cycle. I thought perhaps the splines on the connecting point to the wiper gear were worn, so I decided to install new wiper arms. When I got the new arms yesterday, I noticed that there were no splines on the inner surface of the connecting point to the gears. I reached out to the part company, but then I examined the original arms. What I thought were matching splines were only wear marks that had been left by the splines on the gear. Last night I put the old arms back on to try again. Passenger wiper works fine. Driver side still drags across the windshield, slowing the entire cycle down, no matter how I seem to adjust the tightness of the bolt securing the arm. I have new linkage arriving today, BTW, that I plan on installing tonight. First I'd like to understand what is going on with the old driver's side arm. Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and moved forward with putting the new arms on and they are running as good as seems possible. Turns out I should never have replaced the motor- the wipers are just really slow on this model. I think I saw some thread here where someone posted that this generation's wipers have two speeds: slow and slower. I'm glad I did replace the linkage, though. It looked pretty cruddy when I pulled it off.

if you think the wipers on your truck are slow you should jump in a 1st gen pickup.
