3.4 swap into 1995 4runner

I am new here so this is my way of introducing myself, I just started modding a 1995 4runner and started with a 3.4l enjine from a 1997 4runner rebuilt to a bone stock condition. I just put a 3" body lift on to accomodate the fit issues with the new engine, my next question is do I need tostick to the 5 speed transmission from another 92 to 95 'runner or could I pull one out of a '97 or so to match the new engine without having to do major surgery to my totally stock and clean interior that is in great condition?

Welcome! First off, is your 1995 4runner a manual already or an automatic? I would 100% recommend using the 5 speed that came with the 3.0 (1987-1995) over the 1996-2004 5 speeds. They are both R150Fs (so they are the same exact transmission), but they have different length input shafts/bell housings/throwout bearings, so I would use the version that originally came with your truck so that the shifter hole in the floor lines up correctly.

You have some serious reading to do still, start with the 3.4 swap section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160/ and read through as many of the swap threads as you can, then read them again; all of the questions you'll encounter have been covered in the various threads, but feel free to ask specific questions that you can't find answers to.

Thanks Wallace, the truck is already a manual and the 3.4l is already in and running great. I just wanted to confirm that the best route was to find a transmision to match the truck not the motor. The current trans is leaking oil and if replacing the shifter and using rtv instead of a paper gasket doesn't stop the leak I will be looking for a transmission to rebuild.
