Howdy, so I just put in a rebuilt 22r and put a Weber redline carb on it and the carb doesn't seem to be getting any fuel. When I poor gas directly into the carb it starts, but doesn't continue to run. Anyone have any ideas? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

 

Check the floats, needle and main jets for blockages? I have the same set-up.

 

Thanks BlackStone, turns out I'm not getting fuel to the carb. Would you recommend an electric or mechanic fuel pump?

 

I have a posi-flo electric pump w/ Mr.gasket regulator set at 2.5 psi the Mechanical is still hooked up; and not sure if its the correct way. With the mechanical installed as well. Seems to be okay though and run fine. I recently purchased a Carter 4070 electric pump, that does not need a regulator, haven't hooked it up though.

Is this a new carburetor, No fuel is in the float bowl?

 

No I pulled the gas line leading to the carb and it was dry as a bone. And the carb is brand new, thanks to ya'll by the way. It was this forum site that ultimately saved me a big hassle buying a "new" 22r. But the fuel pump is one of the few things I didn't plan on replacing. (Apologies for the length) I've been told that the mechanical fuel pumps can go bad sitting for a few months. My trucks been outta commission for at least 6 months now.

 

Sounds like you found your problem. Upgrade fuel pump and install a good filter and pressure regulator. Sounds like you already have spark if you got it to run with external input.

Sorry, PO did all that stuff to my truck before me. I don't really see any brand names on anything, so I assume it's all universal stuff, likely from Summit or similar vendor. I know Redline carries a lot of stuff for fuel delivery, perhaps see what they have, then it will all match

 

Well I ordered a Carter p4070 (thanks Blackstone, after looking up yoursi found it to be the one Weber recommends) and installed it today. I also got a glass filter right before the pump, it doesn't seem to be pulling much fuel though. I was wondering if anyone knows why this could be? With the filter it's a plastic cylinder inside a glass cylinder and the plastic seems to fill with gas but the glass doesn't, also I seem to have bubbles coming from the "out" side (from the pump). Do I need prime the fuel line? My main concern is burning up the fuel pump trying to get fuel to it at this point.

 

I looked at my truck and I've got a filter just like you're describing out at my gas tank/fuel pump, I don't see much gas in the clear part (but I haven't observed it while running yet). The PO installed a 2nd fuel filter in the engine bay, it's a Part # VAG 6N0 201 511A cylindrical filter, if you google part number you'll see examples and I think they're universal as long as the fittings are the correct size. From there, the line enters a fuel pressure regulator, then a gauge, then into the carb. I think he used the LCE kit for the reg and gauge: http://www.lceperformance.com/Fuel-P...-p/1035056.htm

 

Well I fired it up today. Thank ya'll for the help. It runs great it just diesels when I shut it down, but with properly adjusting the timing and carb that should get solved. (Right?)
