I need engine swap w/ current tranny advise?

My 1986 pickup 22r 5speed needs the engine replaced bbut my tranny runs great. The mechanic said the trucks not worth replacing the engine because the transmission has the same mileage. I feel I can replace the engine and not the trans. And not have any problem? Any advice will help plesse soon?

If your tranny does'nt make noise and shifts well, there's no reason to think it wo'nt last a lot longer.

Might be a good idea to replace its input shaft seal and have a look at the input shaft bearing. I think it is possible to replace the input bearing without disassembling the tranny.

This bearing is often one of the first things to fail.

The word here is Mechanic !!

Not that this has high mileage compared to some but just what is the rest of the truck like??

When your paying labor to pretty much restore the whole truck is it really cost effective for you??

Quite different when your doing this all yourself .

Just what is wrong with your engine??

You might be further ahead selling this as is and putting that money plus the engine swap costs toward a truck that runs.

Now if you and some friends can swap the engine then by all means go for it.

Hey guys, sorry I’m new to forum but I need help! I got a 94 pickup that had 3.0, I’ve pulled out but wondering what to go with. Thinking 3.4,4.3 or 350 but really considering a 2vz or any Supra motor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

My 94 choices on motors

The end result I’m looking for is daily driver. I’d like to dip off in the woods whenever I won’t to go without worrying at all like with a 3.0 That said I’m either gonna go with Chevy v8 or 3.4 now

the 3.4 swap is going to be the most cost effective and easiest
